U shaped kitchen, i have a bread bin, toaster, ikea lamp, kettle, little egg store, salt/pepper stand, kitchen roll, microwave.

I have the space so its not cluttered.

But i have a friend who leaves the kettle out and thats it. Its a brand new (all be it white/grey/gloss and not my cup of tea) with built in microwave, but she keeps her toaster in the cupboard. Nothing is out!

I just find it bizzare.

I like a decluttered look but unfortunately I also like gadgets. That means there is a bread maker, toaster, microwave, grill type thing, kettle of course but then in an effort to curb the clutter I have a food processor ( not used for some time) and a large ice cream maker in the spare room. In a cupboard in the hall I keep the rice cooker and slow cooker which are used regularly.

BearSoFair · 16/06/2020 10:25

Microwave
Tea, coffee, and sugar caddies
Kettle
Knife block
Mug tree

I have a small kitchen with limited counter tops.
On mine I have the microwave, kettle, utensils jar and my radio.
I have to keep my toaster, slow cooker, and food mixer in cupboards. DP wants a coffee machine but there is no room. Hoping to extend one day and have a massive kitchen so I can have my gadgets out.

Argh. TOO MUCH.

Going left to right length of the kitchen:
Coffee machine, cold water steriliser (can probably go away now, actually), big fruit bowl, second fruit bowl, food waste caddy, assorted glass for recycling, draining board and dish rack, sink, random bits needing washed, tray with jams, butter and bread, microwave wedged in the corner, toaster, jars with pasta and teenager snacks, hob, and then the weird square foot of worksurface where all the sauces, oils and cutting boards live.

Notso · 16/06/2020 10:47

Chopping boards,
Oil jug,
Large enamel jug,
Washing up liquid,
Soap in a dish,
Teapot,
Tea caddy,
Tin of coffee pods,
Nespresso machine,
Milk frother
Trays,
Radio,
Unused Alexa,
My planner,
The fruit bowl.

Kitchen has a L of worktop on one side then a full run on the other and a peninsula in the middle.
Microwave is built in, boiling water tap, toaster lives in a drawer.
It looks the right amount of stuff out to me, not bare and not cluttered. The stuff that's out is either decorative or useful except Alexa!

Notso · 16/06/2020 10:49

Oh yes and kitchen roll but that seems to hide in plain sight so I never find it when I need it!

JonHammIsMyJamm · 16/06/2020 10:52

DH keeps trying put more crap in the worktop but we have;

Coffee machine
Whizzy blender thing (nutribullet?)
2 knife blocks
Kettle
Alexa
JosephJoseph Chopping board set thing
Bread bin
Toaster

We have a lot of worktop space but FFS that is too much stuff, imo.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 16/06/2020 10:53

Oh I forgot the little rack thing with oil & vinegar in it 🤬

Redcrow · 16/06/2020 10:54

Far too much. I hate it, I'd love it clear

Toaster, kettle, microwave, fruit bowl, bread bin, chopping boards, a tray with husbands daily meds on

camelsellingrugs · 16/06/2020 10:55

@WhereDoesThisToiletGo what is a Facebook portal?

I have Thermomix, baby steriliser and a kettle, and some flowers. I would like to have a bigger pantry and nothing out as well, and a boiling tap. I hate having to move stuff to wipe under it.

Raella50 · 16/06/2020 10:57

Kettle, coffee machine and kitchen roll.

UnfinishedSymphon · 16/06/2020 10:58

Utensil holder, kettle, box containing dogs medication, 2 worktop savers, electric tin opener, microwave

itbemay1 · 16/06/2020 10:59

Kettle, plant in pot, fruit basket, coffee maker, candle, toaster. I like it quite clear but can't be faffing about with toasters in cupboards.

youngestisapsycho · 16/06/2020 10:59

Our toaster is on a tray in the cupboard.... comes out in the morning for breakfast and is then put away again. It does not need to be out all the time. We are moving soon and I am going to have a huge floor to ceiling cupboard so the mixer, pressure cooker, toaster, and all occasional use things can just be brought out when needed.

pinktaxi · 16/06/2020 11:02

Give your friend a few months and everything will creep out again. A friend of mine instists on keeping a rubbish bin in the cupboard as she hates them out. It has a lid you have to lift and is tiny. So irritating.

Mine has blender, toaster, sandwich maker, George formby grill, kettle, microwave, tea/coffee/sugar cans on a little tray, breadbin and surface protector. It's very cluttered.

pinktaxi · 16/06/2020 11:03

Utensil pot and fruit bowl are on the windowsill, so don't count.

reluctantbrit · 16/06/2020 11:26

Galley style kitchen:
One side has the kettle, two tea tins, food processor, milk foamer and kitchen waste bin.
The other side has a wooden carrier with bottles, a holder for all kind of paper like shopping and food lists, pencil pot and a box with assorted stuff we don’t know where to put otherwise.

Pleasenodont · 16/06/2020 11:29

Pulling the appliances out every time I wanted to use them would drive me nuts. I have the kettle, tea/coffee canisters, fruit bowl, microwave, toaster and bread bin.

Pleasenodont · 16/06/2020 11:29

Oh and the nutribullet.

Pleasenodont · 16/06/2020 11:30

@pinktaxi I have a friend who doesn’t even own a kitchen bin because she hates them, she honestly takes the rubbish outside constantly Confused.

Chasingsquirrels · 16/06/2020 11:48

Sink corner - kettle, toaster, food caddy, breadboard in corner, knife sharpener, washing up liquid and cloth by the sink.

Long run - food processor, book stand at one end and TV (and some bananas atm) at the other end.

Utility room has washing liquid and scrubber by the sink, recycling crate (purple) at one end and washing basket at the other, plus atm a couple of tubs of dog treats.

Microwave (with eggs and butter on top)
KitchenAid
Scales
Kettle
Chopping boards

We've recently revamped our kitchen and I'm determinedly prowling the worktops for stray items Grin

lazylinguist · 16/06/2020 12:26

Kettle, toaster, microwave. I like it uncluttered and dh hates clutter on the kitchen surfaces. He doesn't care what the rest of the house looks like, but likes cooking in an uncluttered space!

thesunwillout · 16/06/2020 12:31

'and that's just what's on the top layer' 😆

@Sheepareawesome

I love you
