Apologies if this thread isn't in the right place.

I am really awful with technology and phones. I have an android phone, and I have photos on this phone from 2015 onwards, many of these photos are quite painful for me to look at for one reason or another, but i would never want to get rid of them/delete them or loose them (think DCs photographs featuring someone I dont want to be reminded of daily, or a relative who has died who I find being reminded of daily painful)

How do i back photos up somewhere that isn't on the main gallery or Google photos? Then be able to delete them from the main gallery & Google on my phone but have them safely stored elsewhere, somewhere that is accessible.

My phone spews out reminders from times I rather not be reminded of eg. "On this day in 2017"
Or if I scroll down too far into 2017/18 photos I'm left with painful reminders of the past and I just want to move forward without carrying the baggage of the past around. I know I'm sounding abit daft but its really becoming a big thing im struggling with.

I've tried googling it but i still don't understand what to do about it all.

I'm very paranoid of deleting anything from the past on my phone incase I loose it forever and as I've mentioned it's not something i would enjoying looking back on, but it's plenty to do with my DCs past and important I keep the photos of thier future.

I dont understand any of this upload to cloud stuff or where that even is!

Please if anyone can advise i would really appreciate it.

You need it backed up onto a hard drive I think, then you can store in a folder on your laptop.

Then delete the photos which cause so much anguish.

Or do what i did and get a different phone.

Thank you for reply @Anthilda

I know this isn't the most reverting of threads so not expected many replies and appreciate yours.

I got a new phone, but they instantly transferred to this one!

My laptop is really old, I worry about that breaking too - I suppose the paranoia about this has to end somewhere - do I just link my phone to the laptop with a cable and upload the picture to there?

What type of android phone do you have? They’re not all the same like iPhones so they’ll each have different ways of doing things.

TheFormerPorpentiaScamander · 16/06/2020 09:25

You could back them up to something like Dropbox if you dont want to use google photos. Which is entirely understandable
Mine keeps giving me lovely reminders of how happy and in love I was a year ago...

I use an app called Photosync to regularly back up my phone photos to laptop and rename them to include the date at the same time.
If you just want them off phone but available somewhere you could do that and copy them to a flash drive which is just 'photos 2015-2019' or some such.

Google photos has an archive section - you can put photos in there, they stay in thee, are not deleted or removed but do not appear on your phone or any other device you have connected but don't get lost.

That is probably the fastest and easiest option. A hard drive or drop box would be the next options.

Thank you for the answers!
Interesting about the archive @covidco
I might try this as a starting point. I've always been too worried to archive photos incase they disappeared

@heartsonacake I have an android galaxy S10 (I think!)

@zebbyzebbo I dont even know what a flash drive is Blush I'm so technology illiterate!

@TheFormerPorpentiaScamander isn't it awful? My phone loves to remind me of my ex H, some times I can't look back on with happiness because of what he did, my ex after that - that also ended badly and a whole range of other things I rather forget. Half of it I wouldn't remember if it wasnt for my helpful phone reminding me or the gallery coming up! Something must be done!

Thanks again for the replies so far
