... which beach do you go to?

We're planning on getting up super early one warm day and making a day trip to the coast with the kids before it gets too busy.

Obviously we're about as far from the sea as it's possible to be in the UK. Southend seems to be the closest but I don't mind going (a bit) further if there's somewhere nicer.

We would need parking near enough the beach to carry our stuff but no other facilities other than some sand and maybe an ice cream!

We don’t! It feels too far. We did it once and it was a long day but our children were very young. We went to west wittering but that’s only because we know it and like it.

Not even toilets?

I am v close to the bucks border and feel your pain OP. I prefer driving slightly further and going to nicer beaches and like Bournemouth and the north Norfolk coast also

I live in Leicestershire, which is even worse than Bucks. We really are as far from the coast as it is possible to be in these islands. We are so far from the sea that there is no sense of living on an island at all.

The ‘closest’ beaches are on the Lincolnshire coast around Skegness, which are more than 2 hours drive away, but the area is such a dump that we never go there. The closest seaside place we would actually want to visit is the north Norfolk coast, which is 3 hours drive away. That’s a lot of driving for a day trip, so we just don’t take day trips to the beach .

@AgeLikeWine I grew up in Leicestershire so I feel your pain! Skeggy Butlina being a real treat...

We're a bit too far from Norfolk here I think. It's either going to be Essex or the south coast.
