How do you disrupt the nuclear family

Hi,

Ive seen that BLM want to dismantle the nuclear family but I don't understand how you would do that.

Isn't it just something that just is?

What would it actually look like if it was dismantled?

I generally don't get it

The nuclear family is a man and a woman living together and bringing up their shared children. Black families in the UK, the US, and also in many countries in Africa and the Caribbean, are less likely to conform to this structure than white or Asian families and this fact is often interpreted by social small-c conservatives of all races as being indicative of a moral failure by black men and low standards from black women, and the cause of many problems for black adolescents.

Hence BLM’s stance celebrating alternative structures as good in themselves is interesting and radical, but that doesn’t necessarily make it right or wrong. I’m not really qualified to judge and would welcome any suggestions of good black feminist writings on the subject.

Could you refer me to where you found this explanation of BLM's position on disrupting the nuclear family on the BLM organisation website?

The reason this issue is linked to BLM is because of how much more likely families are to differ from the nuclear family model in black communities, for example with grandparents raising children while parents work. There is a perception that this is a failure by the family (at times it is seen as a moral failure) and it shouldn't be. Other family groups are legitimate.

Sorry if you misunderstood that I hadn't researched the issue - I absolutely have.
