LoisLittsLover · 15/06/2020 09:13

12 minute walk (steep hill for tge last but)

TakemetoGreeceplease · 15/06/2020 09:13

Mine is just leaving his primary school which is a 5 minute walk away, he's been walking to school with friends since he was 8. High school he'll be attending (very part time Hmm) is visible from our house and approx 2 min walk away, just as well given the plans for education here in Scotland.

20 minute walk, I don’t drive so we walk it every day no matter the weather. Sometimes it’s a bit depressing if it’s pissing it down but on the plus side it’s good for us.

Ooopsijustsnarted · 15/06/2020 09:18

5 or 6 minute walk down hill, twice as long to get home.

Less than 100 metres. Would hate to live further away, we have no stresses whatsoever about getting to or from school.

iwilltaketwoplease · 15/06/2020 09:22

There and back takes an hour.

FrenchFancie · 15/06/2020 09:24

I think it’s about 5km? We live rural and I think it’s about a 10 minute drive in. They go on the school bus most days though. There 7 or 8 Kids from the school in our little Hamlet so they aren’t lonely.

It's a 10 mins cycle-ride for primary and about 10 mins walk for secondary.

The layout of the paths and cycle lanes mean that it's actually quicker to walk or cycle than it is to drive.

Aragog · 15/06/2020 09:24

DD's primary, secondary and sixth form schools were all close to one another (within about 1/2 mile max)
They were about 3 miles from our house, so 10-15 minute drive depending on traffic or a 20 minute bus.

CMOTDibbler · 15/06/2020 09:25

DS's secondary school is 1.5 miles away. He cycles there

TimeWastingButFun · 15/06/2020 09:25

One is an 8 minute walk away and the other (secondary) a half hour drive. I'm certainly not missing that part of the school run during lockdown!

hiredandsqueak · 15/06/2020 09:28

Eighteen miles, which was a fifty minute journey pre lockdown but has been less than thirty since because of the reduction in traffic. We need to go through a town and dd's school is on the outskirts of a city centre. Not ideal but pretty typical when you have a child in independent specialist school out of County. I'd do twice the distance though for the right school if necessary. Ds's school was 26 miles from home in the opposite direction when he attended a different independent specialist in a different County.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 15/06/2020 09:28

3 different schools so far (in different countries,)

  1. 10min walk or 5min bike
  2. 25 mins on school bus
  3. 10min drive minimum, traffic up to 25minutes. Just over 2 miles to walk, but massive hill and country road make it unsuitable for bikes or scooters. Walking would take an hour for the hills!
Crustaceans · 15/06/2020 09:36

I’ve lived various distances from my kids’ schools.

DS1 (who has moved a lot):
Primary school 1 - 10 minute walk
Primary school 2 - 45 minute walk (Flat 1), 30 minute walk (flat 2)
Primary school 3 - 20 minute walk (house 1), 40 minute drive (house 2)
Middle school - 45 minute walk
High school 1 - 10 minute walk
High school 2/college - 15 minute walk, 15 minutes train, 10 minute walk

DS2:
First school - 10 minute walk (house 1), 30 min drive (house 2)
Middle school - 5 minute walk (at most, but he makes it longer by walking to his friend’s house in the other direction and then walking to school).

LunaAzul · 15/06/2020 09:40

Two minutes walk. And that's taking into account the time taken to cross the road.

GameSetMatch · 15/06/2020 09:41

45 minute walk about 7mins in the car, getting to school is fine it’s down hill but the walk back is a nightmare we live at the top of the cliffs!

squeekums · 15/06/2020 09:41

20 minutes by car, we drop her off half way where the school bus stops. She goes to school in town over cos the local one is shit

MilaRos · 15/06/2020 09:44

We can see the end of the playing field from our house but the entrance gates of the primary school is a 5/6 min walk. Their Secondary school is a 6/7 min walk in the opposite direction.

mindutopia · 15/06/2020 09:47

10 minute drive. It's our closest one.

SkepticalCat · 15/06/2020 09:48

@hiredandsqueak similar situation here. We live 25 miles from the special school DD attends.

Takes about 40 minutes (80 minute round trip).

Notso · 15/06/2020 09:51

20-25 mins walk to primary, 30-35 mins to secondary.
It's supposed to be a 5 min drive to primary but we often set off at the same time as our neighbour or just before and arrive at the same due to traffic.

Psychoseverywhere · 15/06/2020 09:52

No walking where we are but it takes approx 7/8 mins driving. No lights or other traffic as we are out in the sticks. i would guess to walk its about 45 mins there. We are in Ireland and chose a non catholic school though.

Psychoseverywhere · 15/06/2020 09:53

Oh just to add we actually pass three catholic schools on our way but not a hope my kids will be in a catholic school.
