CCTV pointing to child’s bedroom

My neighbour has put a CCTV camera on a flat roof which is pointing to my 9 year old daughter’s bedroom. The police came and said they cannot do anything as on his monitor the window is blocked. We all know how easy it is to just change the settings but the police think he will not do it....

The camera would have to do a contortion periscope manoeuvre to get anywhere near the window and then turn a corner.
It's pointing at whatever is under your building.

It looks like it is just pointing into next doors yard . Much lower than the upper window.

LudaMusser · 15/06/2020 23:07

I take it the skylights in the photo are your's?

Why not put something on the rooftop to ensure the camera can't see across? It could be a large plant pot with decent sized plant in or some wicker fencing etc

The list is endless

LockedInMadness · 15/06/2020 23:47

I still want to know who the safeguarding team was who you spoke to and who would blame you for not protecting your Dd Confused

GrumpyHoonMain · 15/06/2020 23:51

I would knock on all your neighbours’ doors and tell them what he’s doing.

thenightsky · 15/06/2020 23:55

The camera doesn't seem to be pointing at the location you took that picture from.

SpillTheTeaa · 16/06/2020 00:12

That's so weird! You can see from the picture that the camera isn't facing down and is in fact at the window. I agree you have to put a film on her window which allows her to see out but not them to see in.

At the window? Are we looking at the same photo?

It's not at all clear where the camera is pointing or indeed what the neighbour is recording and why.

Is the photo from your dd's window? Obviously the window is open and you're leaning out, when the window is shut, the angle of the line of your house/window wouldn't be in direct line to the camera, would it?

Is that an alleyway, OP? Is that his wall? Are the skylights yours? So many questions and I don't think it's clear at all.

copperoliver · 16/06/2020 00:37

Ask your neighbour to move it. X

ttim985y · 16/06/2020 00:53

is there an alleyway or something below or is the camera just looking at the roof?

Barryisland · 16/06/2020 01:01

How do you know what the neighbour can see with the camera ?

AlwaysCheddar · 16/06/2020 06:03

Look at the ICO website.

@GrumpyHoonMain what? Tell them he has a camera on his back yard?!
Deathraystare · 16/06/2020 09:50

Id knock on the neighbours door and ask what they're playing at. I'd also continually call the police, invoke Sarah's law and shame them on social media. No way would I let that camera stay in place. Good luck Op.

Absolutely! I would ask what threat a 9 year old child poses to him or does he enjoy looking at them? Then mention the police and Sarah's law.

Im a bit unclear, how do you know it is pointing at your daughters window? From the picture its not clear and looks unlikely given the camera type.
Have you seen what is being recorded? Has your neighbour given any reason for setting up the camera?

Honeyroar · 16/06/2020 10:10

Why does he even need the camera if it’s blanked out on his screen?? It doesn’t look like it’s pointing at her window, and even if it was it’s side on. Could you put some trellis or something along the edge of your roof to shield her? Not much of a view to block for her anyway.

HouchinBawbags · 16/06/2020 10:11

Can someone point out the camera please? It may be totally obvious but I cant see it at all.

KingJarvisofPulp · 16/06/2020 10:12

You are paranoid OP. It's in no way pointing directly at your window.

HouchinBawbags · 16/06/2020 10:14

Oh wait. I just saw it. Its pointing down though?

TheCanterburyWhales · 16/06/2020 10:15

Well, the "safeguarding team", police etc didn't feel it merited him being told to take it down so a "massive dh" is more likely to get himself arrested by doing so than the bloke who may be a perv, but may also be protecting his property from whatever entrance etc is in the line of the OP's house.
Looking again at the photos, as others say, it's clearly a big busy city and there's likely to be more than one CCTV camera in the area. Probably actually facing the bedroom which that one, if the bedroom is from where the photo was taken, clearly isn't.

HouchinBawbags · 16/06/2020 10:15

If you're that worried you could ask your neighbour to position it a foot lower. It would still be viewing the alleyway but wouldn't be able to see the bedroom window? Which it's not pointed at anyway.

Lipz · 16/06/2020 10:32

Where are people seeing an alleyway and the camera pointing down? I can't see an alleyway. To me it looks like a flat roof, there are 2 sky lights and the camera is on the wall opposite the bedroom. I've seen those cameras before and you can zoom and circle around without actually moving the camera. Places like shops use them, they stay still but all the movement is done inside the camera glass.
