CCTV pointing to child’s bedroom

Tina2705 · 14/06/2020 21:34

My neighbour has put a CCTV camera on a flat roof which is pointing to my 9 year old daughter’s bedroom. The police came and said they cannot do anything as on his monitor the window is blocked. We all know how easy it is to just change the settings but the police think he will not do it....

How are you with a slingshot? Seriously I'd be taking that camera out if the police won't help.

LockedInMadness · 15/06/2020 11:54

Well, it depends on what you mean. Is the camera supposedly pointed at something else but includes your dd's bedroom

^this.
What else is in that general area?
Also if this person is some kind of weirdo, how does he know where your dd's bedroom is?

OP have you spoken to the neighbour? Might they not realise ?

TheCanterburyWhales · 15/06/2020 12:27

What else does it point in the direction of?

theonlywayisapple · 15/06/2020 12:28

It probably looks like it's pointing to your child's window but it won't be. We have a security camera like this. It's perfectly legal

TheCanterburyWhales · 15/06/2020 12:30

I live behind an all night garage which has 4 CCTV cameras pointing at my house. Including my bedroom and dd's.
I have no reason to think it's for anything other than safety and it's always made us feel safer. It's run by one bloke.
Unless there's a backstory here (and without the OP confirming what else is in sight) calling the neighbour a "nonce" is out of order.

Russell19 · 15/06/2020 12:30

Surely its not just pointing at your daughters window? What info have you missed out?

Tianalia · 15/06/2020 12:32

I have spoken to safeguarding team i they said I have to put the screen on the window other wise I’m not protecting my daughter.

Is that the only thing they said? Sounds like a lazy cop out to me. I would put the screen up regardless. But I would also expect something to be done about the camera. What is it supposed be looking at?

FamBae · 15/06/2020 12:37

I know you really shouldn't have to screen but If it's any help whilst chatting with a friend she mentioned that she had binned her net curtains and bought a type of film on Amazon that you place on the window, it's like a one way mirror so you can see out and no one can see in, though it only works in daylight, she loves it as she lives on a busy road opposite shops. Search silver reflective window film.

What kind of safeguarding team have you spoken to?

FamBae · 15/06/2020 12:38

Whoops ....

Sorry I don't understand, as Canterbury says, what safeguarding team? What do they mean you are not protecting your daughter?

Also what is the petition? The link wouldn't work for me.

eurochick · 15/06/2020 16:35

I think I would write "anti nonce device" on the exterior of the suggested guard.

Tina2705 · 15/06/2020 17:12

Here is the camera on a picture. I’m doing petition online to regulate the law.,

Where is the bedroom?

Apolloanddaphne · 15/06/2020 17:24

I cannot work out that view at all. Where did you take the picture from? If that is your DDs room then the camera looks like it is much lower.

EnidsCrochetCorner · 15/06/2020 17:31

OP has said that on the monitor the camera owner has the OP's DD's bedroom blocked, usually that you put up a black box so that motion from that doesn't trigger the camera, which means that the camera does capture the 9 year old's bedroom and of course you can just remove the black box from your screen.

The photo is no doubt taken from the 9 year old's bedroom window. I think this is appalling that he is allowed to keep his camera up. Can you contact your local MP?

From the picture it looks like the camera is recording an outdoor space/alley way directly under the camera.
TheCanterburyWhales · 15/06/2020 17:41

Is the photo taken from the child's room?

mommydragon · 15/06/2020 17:43

Could you request the neighbour to put a canopy on top of the camera... it appears to be installed at a level lower than the bedroom... so with the canopy on top, it would only capture the canopy even if the lens is moved upwards. But mind you I think the canopy will need to hand out quite a bit.

Ernieshere · 15/06/2020 17:56

Go round there, it looks as though it would be recording the path?

Russell19 · 15/06/2020 19:11

I don't think that is too bad OP. Its clearly there for the alleyway but maybe it could have a shield or something on it?
Who are you referring to when you say safeguarding team? Social services?

whiplashy · 15/06/2020 19:42

It doesn’t look high enough to see into the window

LockedInMadness · 15/06/2020 20:52

No it doesn't and maybe at the wrong angle anyway?
