How Dominic Cummings "hacked the referendum"

Dominic Cummings said in his own words that he "hacked the referendum" by emphasizing the fears of some sections of the British population. He and his team deliberately created a "barrage" of false or misleading information and carefully directed it at British citizens online from personal information that was stolen or obtained in ways apparently unconnected to politics.

It was a form of "psychological operations" usually used by the secret service.

If we’re talking about manipulating votes, cast your mind back to the last election when there were several tactical voting sites set up which covered the whole of GB and N.I. in favour of electing pro EU candidates to overturn the referendum.
They were asking people to vote not for the candidate of their choice, but for the one that had the best chance of winning. Even arranging vote swapping. These tactical voting sites were widely promoted by posters on MN.
Illegal no, immoral yes.
Even with this the Torys gained an 80 seat majority.
