How old would you say this photo is?

Been given a huge cardboard box of old photos from a relative to try and identify where possible - they were all for the bin as thought to be useless so I’ve rescued them ... I’ve tracked about 30 down to friends in the USA, a lot more to different places in Europe and several others we’ve been able to give a decent guess but this one has us totally thrown . I think it’s really quite an old photo and don’t recognise the lass at all, I’ve shown it to other family who are also clueless .

I think it’s definitely a British photo, but no idea what era ... maybe that’s impossible to work out?!

Thought I’d ask on here - surely someone else is as bored as me and fancies a mystery . I’ve blanked her face out deliberately .

For context family are all Scottish and photos in box date from 1930 to about 2000 ... (very helpful, I know) .

How old would you say this photo is?

1970s

namechange0202 · 14/06/2020 15:50

Obviously not to be able to identity the lass - although given the box also included dozens of postcards advertising eg pears soap, I wouldn’t be surprised if this turns out to be similar !

Hard to say but I think 1970s

Flump9 · 14/06/2020 15:50

I'd say late 70s maybe early 80s, going off the rounded corners and I think it's square rather than rectangle I can't tell. That's going by photos I've got.

SundayReilly · 14/06/2020 15:51

1970S I Had similar school pinafore and Clarks T bar school shoes
Also is that a metal framed swing?
Had one of those too.
That girl possibly now in her mid 50s

Fifthtimelucky · 14/06/2020 15:54

Definitely 1970s. I'd say early-mid, rather than late.

She wouldn’t have been posing for Miss Pears would she?
FlibbertyGiblets · 14/06/2020 15:55

Yep 1970s. I had those shoes in a sort of dark cherry colour. I'm fifty-mumble.

NannyR · 14/06/2020 15:55

I would say 1970's/early 80's. I was born in the seventies and all my baby/young child photos were the same square with rounded corners.

FlibbertyGiblets · 14/06/2020 15:56

The house looks like married quarters?

namechange0202 · 14/06/2020 15:57

Thank you, trying to make a list of possible cousins it could be then . Yep I think a metal swing, and definitely square/rounded corners .

Seems my great gran kept every photo she ever received, there are hundreds . Dozens of babies - which aren’t brilliant for identifying as all babies look very similar !

I can’t bring myself to bin them as they must have been important to someone once - no way of ever finding eg the American family some of them belong to .

wowfudge · 14/06/2020 15:57

Early 70s.

namechange0202 · 14/06/2020 15:58

Married quarters makes a lot of sense - thank you !

Dementedswan · 14/06/2020 15:58

I would say 1975/1985

Crinkle77 · 14/06/2020 15:59

I would say 70's purely for the fact that my mum has photo albums from that decade and the photos have the same rounded edges.

FlibbertyGiblets · 14/06/2020 16:00

Thumbs up and good luck with the quest.

merryhouse · 14/06/2020 16:02

mid-70s, both from the outfit and from the print style

Doingtheboxerbeat · 14/06/2020 17:39

70's, I have lots of childhood pics similar to this.

Sewrainbow · 14/06/2020 17:54

I agree 70s I had shoes like those throught late 70s and early 80s. The jumper under pinafore is reminiscent of lots of my old photos from late 70s.

42andcounting · 14/06/2020 17:55

I would have been that age in the 70s, and the clothes look earlier than the kind of thing I wore. I think 60s or maybe 50s, my older sisters wore things like this around that time.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 14/06/2020 18:34

I think it’s really quite an old photo
I'm guessing 70s too. That's not old, that's younger than me!

RandomMess · 14/06/2020 18:48

Clothes and quality of the photo late 70s.

x2boys · 14/06/2020 18:52

Yes definitely 70,s or possibly early 80,s going off the clothes and type of photo.
