By adding spinach to their Macaroni Cheese.
Spinach is only ok on a week day apparently. Who knew?

Poor children

Fandoozle1 · 13/06/2020 20:49

For shame, OP! Grin

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 13/06/2020 20:51

This has ruined MY night too! Poor kid. It’s veg free Saturday!! X

ScrapThatThen · 13/06/2020 20:53

I'm thinking butternut squash...but I will get away with it because the teens are on a vegetarian health kick.

WoollyMammouth · 13/06/2020 20:53

@WinWinnieTheWay

I've now also confessed to using fusilli, a breadcrumb and cheese topping and a chipped bowl. Confused
So nothing like macaroni cheese then really...
wowfudge · 13/06/2020 20:54

I put a bit of garlic powder and chipotle chilli in ours - they just bring out the cheesiness of the cheese. Oh and top with panko mixed with chopped parsley and grated cheese.

WinWinnieTheWay · 13/06/2020 20:56

@WoollyMammouth

I got carried away.

I just fed spinach to the budgies. They love it.

gymbummy · 13/06/2020 20:57

Mine hate any sort of veg in it, I've given up on that now. My eldest was nearly in tears yesterday because he was looking forward to it so much and I ruined it by not putting breadcrumbs on top (no bread). The little one didn't mind and pretty much ate his own bodyweight in cheesy carbs

WoollyMammouth · 13/06/2020 20:59

Genuinely shaking my head at my phone.

🤦‍♀️Grin

I asked DH, he couldn’t work out why it being Saturday was relevant until I asked him what the kids would say. He thought they’d be disgusted.

ManualFlusherSnot · 13/06/2020 21:06

Spinach in macaroni Shock

I love spinach, but it has to be smothered in gravy.

Brefugee · 13/06/2020 21:09

YANBU to add spinach to macaroni cheese - but YABVVVVVU to call it a "pop of colour" OP!!!

GrandAltogetherSo · 13/06/2020 21:11

M’eh. 🤮
Macaroni cheese looks like sick anyway. Envy

Snooks1971 · 13/06/2020 21:12

Reported.
All I want is cheesy pasta now and I can’t have it.
Disgusting. How dare you tempt me in OP Angry

ScarfLadysBag · 13/06/2020 21:12

I put spinach and bacon in ours!

JudgeRindersMinder · 13/06/2020 21:19

The only acceptable veg on a Saturday night is in pakora Grin

You really are a monster!
My DC just told me that I've ruined Saturday night...
WinWinnieTheWay · 13/06/2020 21:24

@ComDummings

I just thought that I'd jazz it up a bit.

I liked it!

OP posts:
enjoyingscience · 13/06/2020 21:37

I love it with spinach, or kale, or anything lovely and green.

My DS6 made me solemnly promise to stop putting ‘black wet lettuce’ in it though, so I’ve had to stop.

Pickles89 · 13/06/2020 21:43

Do they have the number for childline? Seriously, it's PEAS one has with mac and cheese, didn't you know?

Redmarchingband · 13/06/2020 21:52

If I’m feeling particularly frivolous, I put crispy bacon, cauliflower AND smoked cheese in mine. DH whinges if I don’t put a leek in it too. Bit of mustard and a dash of nutmeg brings out the cheesiness.

MorganKitten · 13/06/2020 21:53

Why would you do that?

runrabbitrunrunrun · 13/06/2020 21:53

Monster!

WinWinnieTheWay · 13/06/2020 21:55

@Redmarchingband

That sounds amazing, I'm not sure about the pasta and cauliflower combination, although it's been mentioned a lot on here. I do like cauliflower cheese, so maybe it's a no brainer?

OP posts:
Redmarchingband · 13/06/2020 22:01

@WinWinnieTheWay try it! I’m a complete heathen and boil the macaroni and cauliflower in the same pan. Crisp the bacon up first in the oven (I do it in the dish that I bake the macaroni in) and then it doesn’t stick either and you get all the nice bacon-y delightfulness. I promise you won’t ever look back!
