Why would they hang-up?

Someone just called the landline and DH picked it up. Woman asked to speak to me (first name only). When he asked who was speaking she stayed silent. He asked three times and then she hung-up.

1471 and I called the mobile back. Voicemail was a name (first name,) I don't recognise.

Why would someone call, but not want to be identified?

Unlikely to be wrong number as my name is slightly unusual.

Callers Battery died or phone lost signal?

OP this is Mumsnet - nobody answers the phone!

probably a scammer. I used to get a lot asking for 'Mrs Jones' (not my name). When you say 'no-one here of that name' they just put the phone down. This one may have looked you up somewhere.

real people who dial a wrong number will occasionally apologise, although that is also a vanishing custom.
