Is nothing sacred?

What about Snoop Dog doing Just Eat?! So many slebs cropping up doing weird ads.

GrowingGreenGrass · 12/06/2020 22:44

George Clooney - coffee.
Anything for money. Trashy.

Belindabelle · 12/06/2020 22:50

I will tell what it is. Tragic. Bloody tragic.

DeborahAnnabelToo · 12/06/2020 22:55

He's also in some naff car ad. Must have a big tax bill to pay or something. Also, Harvey Keitel in those god awful car insurance ads which ran for what felt like a century.

ssd · 12/06/2020 23:01

Clooney did something brilliant with his coffee ads money

Though I'm fecked if I remember what 🤔

Dicotyledon · 13/06/2020 00:03

When I was in Vegas in 2000, I was horrified to see Mr T flogging second-hand cars.

Gilead · 13/06/2020 03:41

I never understand why actors get grief for doing their jobs. It’s a strange snobbery.

ElizabethMainwaring · 13/06/2020 03:46

De Niro must be in huge debt.
He has made some notoriously bad films too, see Dirty Grandpa.
That car ad he does is dreadful.

shartsi · 13/06/2020 04:04

They are not breaking the law or hurting anyone, stop being a snob. I don't think they care about your opinion.

ElizabethMainwaring · 13/06/2020 04:42

It's got bugger all to do with snobbery.
De Niro is trashing his own reputation.
He is an epic talent who has made some of the best films ever.
It's shameful and embarrassing to make adverts where he belittles himself because of poor financial decisions.

louise5754 · 13/06/2020 04:51

Similar to Philip Schofield and the car advert.

ElizabethMainwaring · 13/06/2020 04:53

Not really.

CatBatCat · 13/06/2020 05:32

@ssd he used it to fund satalites to spy on the Sudanese dictator to make sure he was up to no good.

shartsi · 13/06/2020 07:24

Good on him for doing any work to get out of his poor financial situation. Just because you enjoyed his movies, you don't get the right to decide how he chooses to legitimately earn a living.

NoWordForFluffy · 13/06/2020 07:28

@TerrorWig

What about Snoop Dog doing Just Eat?! So many slebs cropping up doing weird ads.
I bloody love that advert!

(We did decide he must have had a tax bill to pay or something though!)

dayswithaY · 13/06/2020 08:17

The bagel ad gives me the rage too. I don't care what de Niro does, not my business. That particular advert is a send up of all the mafia and gangster films that made him who he is, he's bitten the hand that feeds him for a quick buck. He's got so much power he could say to Warburtons, yes I'll do your advert for mega bucks but I won't be pratting about in a pathetic re-enactment of Goodfellas out of respect to Scorcese, the fans and just his own self respect. There's hundreds of ways he could have flogged bread, instead of acting like he's in a sketch from Saturday Night Takeaway, what a sell out.

The car ad is fine though. It's quite funny and understated and he retains his dignity. He should have stuck to that.

ElizabethMainwaring · 13/06/2020 08:28

@dayswithaY
I haven't seen the Warburton's ad, but if it's more dignified than the car one it must be pretty dire.
I've thought before that Warburton's must be paying mega bucks as they have had big stars before. Stallone did one a while back.

dayswithaY · 13/06/2020 08:40

Wrong way round, the car ad is slightly more dignified than Warburtons, but that's me trying to be balanced, as it's pretty crap too.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 13/06/2020 08:43

@GrowingGreenGrass

George Clooney - coffee. Anything for money. Trashy.
And it was for Nestle which is a highly dodgy company with crap/ non existent ethics.
nitgel · 13/06/2020 08:44

He's an actor. He's hired, he acts. Like any other job. I still love him. Grin

Mominatrix · 13/06/2020 09:11

I am surprised you are surprised. Robert De Niro has had decades in the restaurant industry (own/partial owns 27 Nobu restaurants around the world and a number of other ones including the Tribeca Grill). If anything, he is just naturally branching out.

ElizabethMainwaring · 13/06/2020 12:50

Okay, so he is either desperate or greedy.
Neither is a good look.
Perhaps as a pp said, I am being snobby, but I prefer my heroes and uber talented people to retain some mystique.

GreenTeaMug · 13/06/2020 12:53

Wasn't it Kevin Bacon who started the craze for celebs doing ads?

I love Kevin Bacon.

And i love Harvey keitel. [swoon]

ElizabethMainwaring · 13/06/2020 13:04

I agree. The Bacon and Keitel adverts are fine.
De Niro's just seem so I'll judged, and like he doesn't give a toss about his reputation.

HighNoon · 15/06/2020 06:31

Kevin Bacon and his wife were cleaned out by Bernie Madoff. De Niro is /was getting divorced?
