Why is it x=1 and not x=-1?

Anything multiplied by zero is zero, so x = 1 - 0 = 1

Chemenger · 12/06/2020 13:20

Because y= 1 - (2x0) = 1

BODMAS means that you do the multiplication first

It's due to the order of operations. You need to work out what the 2x is first, then calculate 1 minus 2x.

Worked it out now Blush nothing like some year 7 maths to test your brain. For some reason we did the multiplication and then inverted the sum. "2x0 is 0 and then take away 1 to get -1..." now using paper and pen! Thanks guys.

This minus belongs to the 2 so it is -2 x0 which is 0.
