Footwear for 30 mile walk.

I am going to be doing a 30 mile walk, I am going to buy footwear specifically for this because none of mine is suitable.

Would you buy walking boots which wouldn't really get worn again or would you buy comfy running trainers which would probably get more use?

Basically are running shoes sufficient for the job? It's an not hills or hiking its a city walk.

@LycraLovingLass
I'm doing a 26 mile walk in September.... not doing it along a canal path are you?

I've just bought some Merrals walking trainers

Hi @LycraLovingLass the anti-blister socks are definitely your most important item of kit and I see you've already ordered them. I did the Edinburgh Kiltwalk Mighty Stride in 2018, which was 24 miles and the anti-blister socks did not let me down! They last forever too, so they are well worth the money.

I wore a well broken in pair of running shoes and aside from a little stiffness in my right thigh I was absolutely fine.

Good luck and enjoy your walk!

@mencken

something with decent soles and padding. Probably not something aimed at women.
Why not something aimed at women? My walking boots and hiking shoes are from the women’s ranges (one Meindl and the other Salomon) I do a lot of walking and my size in a mans shoe (if they went small enough) would be too wide for me. My brother is a climber and has very narrow feet .... he buys ladies climbing shoes to get a good fit.

Basically.... buy footwear that FITS from a reputable outdoor equipment shop.

I can't get mens shoes, I can barley get womens shoes as a size 3.

Thanks for all the good lucks, I'm looking forward to it and dreading it equally!

It is along a canal at least some of it is.

Light trail trainers I’d say but wear them in well first. I’ve worn various birkies to stomp round what feels like most of Europe but probably no more than 12-15 miles per day so wouldn’t recommend for longer distances

Good running trainers should do it. You want something light.

My adult daughter is a size three, she bought her walking shoes from the children’s section at Cotswold outdoor, I can’t recall if they are Merrells or Salomon, the big advantage is children’s shoes have no VAT.
