Does anybody love these programmes? I watched the first episode of Back in Time for the Weekend on iPlayer yesterday and, as always, found it absolutely fascinating.

For those that aren't familiar with them, they are programmes where a family lives through former decades & experiences life at the time. For this series they are exploring the changes in leisure time.

The episode I watched was based in 1950s & it seemed like a pretty awful time to be a woman, especially at the beginning of the decade. 11 hours per day doing household chores & even the evening was spent mending & darning. No machines to help so all done by hand & fewer ingredients available too, as it was post-war. Fascinating stuff & makes me realise how lucky we are, even with Covid etc.

Yes we’ve been catching them in BBC2 at 7. It was the 80s yesterday. It was fab.

I love these programmes. They always seem to get lovely families to take part. I was getting all misty eyed nostalgic over the 1970s one - although that was because I was a child then. Must have been a bit different for my parents trying to keep a shop going during the power cuts and the three day week! We just thought lighting the house with candles was really exciting!

Love it! Love all these types of programmes: If Walls Could Talk with Lucy Worsley is one of my favourites.

Yes, I love these too. I often hanker to go back to those times, good or bad, they seem better to me than the current.

I started watching these a couple of years ago, but couldn't relate to them at all until it dawned on me why.
After that I found them very interesting.

Yes they are great we love them!

The Back in Time for Brixton, they did a few years ago for black history month, focused on the experience of black Caribbean families in Brixton after the wind rush, was exceptional television
