Tooth extraction - was this normal?

(If you’re squeamish about anything tooth related I strongly suggest moving on from this thread)

Just back from the dentist. Not my usual dentist as they’re still not open (I normally go to a private dentist but this was NHS, not sure if that makes a difference). My back tooth was split down the middle and had to be extracted. I knew this was probably going to be the case.

The dentist - very sweet, although looked about 14 years old to me! - took a really long time to extract the tooth. Maybe 45 minutes of back and forth, pushing and pulling. I’ve read up a little bit afterwards when checking what I need to do for aftercare and most websites suggest a tooth extraction should be straightforward and quick, a couple of minutes max!

The dentist didn’t say anything to me to suggest anything was abnormal/particularly difficult about the extraction. However, the whole experience - as you can imagine - was pretty bleak and I’m now feeling very sorry for myself.
