Can any NHS professionals answer a quick and daft question about scrubs?

I've just been advised that for some aspects of my job we are now to wear scrubs - I don't even normally wear uniform. I've been asked to nominate what size I need but no-one has any garment measurements available. I wear size 12-14 on top, size 16 trousers so assume large??? But maybe X large trousers??? Any advice welcome.

In my experience, I would err on the side of asking for a larger size than you think you need! Scrubs are very much designed for the male shape and don't allow for breasts/hips/bums. I spend all day constantly tightening the drawstrings on the trousers because they're too big round the waist, but if I go down a size they don't fit over over my hips/thighs.

I’d go X-L they’re shapeless anyway so better to go bigger and you can just tighten them with the draw string.

I'd definitely go at least XL on the scrub pants, if not 2XL if you're generous of hip/thigh/bottom.

All scrubs are unisex (which as we all know, means cut for a man), so the waist and hips are always off, plus there is absolutely NO give in them, so if you're someone who usually wears clothes with elastane in them you might be in for a rude awakening to how unforgiving and not built for women they are.

You might find the top a bit snug around your hips if you go for a smaller size top as well, as they aren't cut to flare over women's hips. You can always wear a vest under your scrub top, or tack it with a safety pin or a few stitches if it's a bit too big.

Great, thanks! Glad I asked as I probably would have gone L if I hadn't checked, but now will order XL.

Yeah def xl. I wear l and I’m a 14 top and bottom but some are smaller than others so go up to xl.
