Bar Stools

Do you have bar stools in your kitchen? Last house where we had them they were gas ones and quite heavy. Half of them were set high up and the other were low down. It made them look messy. This time I am thinking of fixed frame stools. Does anyone have fixed stools - any thoughts?

Why were they set high and low?

Heavy is good because it means they don’t topple over. Mine have a high back, and are heavy and they are very comfy, and yes people can adjust the height although only one person does, I just pop it back to the same as the others when they have left.

Different people sitting at different heights so my husband has his stool set low and my son had his higher. It’s just a cosmetic thing.

We have four set height bar stools from JL and they’re great. Never been an issue not able to adjust the height. Our youngest is 8 and both him and my DH (average height) finds them comfortable.

I personally really dislike the heavy, clunky bar stools, the ones with a round heavy base. They are hard to move and you have to be cleaning the base every 5 mins.

Thank you. That’s helpful. Still looking at designs and options.

We stayed at a holiday place with the gas lift ones. Everyone who sat on them messed about, swirling, spinning and going up and down on them. Including me and my parents! It completely put me off getting them. Also put me off having a hob in an island, but that's another discussion.

We have fixed height ones, they're great.
