Aldi. What am I missing...

Morning. I've shopped at Aldi, for years, but always seem to buy the same things. Am I missing any delights? I'm thinking of main meal ideas. Are there any gems that I need to try?

Interested in all these suggestions. Mostly I live Aldi right now because we are skint and I can still afford for the 3 of us to eat well. Going through lots of fresh veg and meat as DS is weaning and I don't want to give him the cheap crap I often eat myself. Any particular bargains people love from Aldi would be appreciated.

Their seeded bread is fantastic, better than most branded ones I’ve tried

Booksandwine80 · 11/06/2020 15:16

The frozen garlic bread slices are absolutely delicious-no other ones come anywhere near in taste. The Greek style coconut yoghurt in a big tub is also beautiful

teraculum29 · 11/06/2020 15:18

and to add, Tostie bread is also very nice and it's only 50p, In my opinion is much better than Hovis or Kingsmill.

We’ve only got Lidl’s but the frozen Lemon Sole in breadcrumbs ( either peppered or garlic and lemon ) is very good. Much better than Waitrose and more than half the price.

A lot of good ideas here

We are veggie pretty much (well the DC are) and they love the vegan pasties (in the freezer) which are £1.29 or so for two.

Pesto much cheaper than Morrisons, ditto sundried tomatoes
No chicken "chicken" burgers (Also frozen)
I am a fan of the strawberry and banana smoothie, yes I know it's full of sugar but I don't have it every day. It's 99p, bargain.

@LashesZ

The porridge pots. Fill with water and leave for 5 mins. I think they're 35p - 300 calories and perfect to keep in work as an emergency breakfast.
They're like wallpaper paste! I love Aldi but the porridge pots are horrible.

Lacura makeup and skincare.

CorianderLord · 11/06/2020 16:49

Omg and the Bratwurst!

florriepeck · 11/06/2020 16:49

clary, you might like the vegan sweet potato burgers (chilled).

Pepperwand · 11/06/2020 17:10

The large family size lasagne in the chilled section.

Butter with the salt crystals.

Tomato and mascapone stir in pasta sauce....also the grilled pepper one.

Fake cornettos.

Chinese chicken stir fry kit is really, really nice.

Racer and jive bars (just like Snickers and Twix)

Decaf tea bags

Nutty granola

Unescorted · 11/06/2020 17:22

Crispy duck with pancakes
Orange & Raspberry iced lollies (Specially selected ones)
Olives in a jar - the big ones. Drain and marinade in olive oil / garlic/ herbs/ chilli
Half baked sourdough baguettes
Fajita kits
Cheese - they are all good so far.
Chestnut and wild boar pate - only around at Christmas
Smoked salmon
Chocolate
Biscoff rip off biscuits
Vegetable oil - it is rapeseed oil so has a high burn point.

Salmon en croute. Amazing value the salmon doesn’t dry out.I get the cheese sauce one it’s lovely cold too and will last ds and I two meals

Spicy bean burgers
Greek yogurt
The Vegan range face cream
Tear and share chocolate brioche

I love Aldi and Lidl especially when it’s Greek food week

ApplePieFruitloaf66 · 11/06/2020 20:39

Bump ..I love Aldi.
Their Cornettos are a decent size.

Orangecake123 · 11/06/2020 20:41

The 100g hazelnut heaven chocolate bar!

BrandyandBabycham · 11/06/2020 20:48

I find Aldi hit & miss for greengroceries but can’t believe how cheap my weekly shop has been during lockdown. Another vote for the salmon en croute ( I think one is prawns & the other cheese). Smoked salmon some of the best I’ve tried. I also like the salt & pepper chicken crown which cooks in 55 minutes. Some of the wines are really good.

UnfinishedSenten · 11/06/2020 23:48

Cod topped with breadcrumbs and parsley sauce 😋
Also second the stir fry packs

FedUpofLockdown123 · 12/06/2020 00:00

Frozen buttermilk chicken thigh burgers (also come in southern fried and hot and spicy)
Chicken in a bag
Frozen chicken chunks in batter
Belgian chocolate waves
Choceur whole nut chocolate
Duck with pancakes
Cans of cola
Cheese and chive pastry twists

NewAccountForCorona · 12/06/2020 00:08

Chicken and broccoli bake ready meal. Frozen pan au chocolate. Hoisin duck with pancakes. bbq pork in a box.

Fresh pasta (spinach and ricotta cheese is a favorite here) and past sauces - spicy chili is great.

Meat and veg are great here, especially their fillet steak and low-fat burgers. Sliced cold chicken, especially the herby one.

Elderflower tonic and various gins (and wine) are much cheaper than other supermarkets.

All the chocolate. And biscuits.

IndecentFeminist · 12/06/2020 07:21

Their frozen, bake at home pain au chocolate and croissants.

Mini brioche buns, great for BBQs.

Cold continental meat platters very good value

Their gastro type chicken nugget chunks/fillets. They do hot and spicy, southern fried etc.

Zippy1510 · 12/06/2020 07:28

Yes the candy floss grapes! The fancy pasta they sometimes get in, the bake at home sour dough baguettes, they had pistachio gelato a few years back and it was fantastic but haven’t seen it again since.

Angelnix · 12/06/2020 08:10

I've been really impressed by their shampoo and conditioner range (Lacura), great value and works better for my hair than some of the leading brands.

mynameiscalypso · 12/06/2020 08:13

I can't believe nobody has mentioned the marshmallow brownie bites - they're in a plastic tub and they are my favourite thing ever.

Crystal87 · 12/06/2020 09:23

Their macaroni cheese ready meal is lovely. and very rich and cheesy.

bringincrazyback · 12/06/2020 09:31

Lacura skincare!
