Taking away the ifs and buts of either things happening it just occured to me that we have 40 days between sending our notice of marriage and then going on holiday. There's going to be 1000s of people potentially sending notice after next weeks announcement (im in Scotland)
How long do they hold on to your documents as we'll need the passports back ASAP!

When we gave notice in 2018 we attended in person and brought our documents with us, which they copied and returned to us immediately.

I'm guessing due to Corona virus you can't attend in person anymore? Could you enclose a prepaid special delivery wallet or a prepaid signed for envelope?

What is next week’s announcement OP?

I’m also having a secret wedding in Scotland this year Grin

Ohjustme · 11/06/2020 13:18

@holeywalls i think from looking at the breakdown of Phases they'll be allowing marriages. My council are also now accepting notices.

@twointhemorning no unfortunately we won't be able to take them in. Thats a good idea about a prepaid special delivery envelope. Ill pop a note in saying we need the documents back ASAP as if would be just our luck they get delayed and then our holiday goes ahead! After the announcement of the council now taking notices it actually works out to be a wee bit longer before our holidays so fingers crossed everything is ok

I didn’t send my passport 2 years ago. We sent our birth certificates and proof of address but don’t remember sending our passports?

Ohjustme · 11/06/2020 14:54

On their website it says passport, birth certificate and proof of address.

I honestly didn’t send mine I think I sent a scanned copy.

Ohjustme · 11/06/2020 19:23

Are you in England. Could it maybe be different in Scotland? I dont want to risk delaying anything. I don't have anyway of scanning a copy anyway

I I’m in Scotland and got married in Scotland. It was definitely just a scanned copy, things here are taking up to 6 days to come back by post.

Ohjustme · 13/06/2020 10:04

Thats strange. I double checked, its Edinburgh city council and it definitely says passport and no mention of copies. I'll just need to send it securely as i can't get a scanned copy anywhere.

I did speak with the registrar So I could book our date and must have asked as I had scanned copies from us buying our house.

We got married at Gretna nearly 2 years ago, we live in England, we definitely sent our passports as I included postage costs to get them recorded back to us.

FairyDogMother11 · 13/06/2020 11:55

Sorry posted too soon, think it was about 10-14 days from sending everything off to getting them back.
