what to do if c-section is infected

Gretal81 · 10/06/2020 20:10

I had a c-section in April, so it has been over 8 weeks. In the past few days I have had stinging and pain. When I checked the wound again today it looks like there may be white discharge too.

Is it possible that it is infected so long after the operation?

What should I do? Speak to the doctor tomorrow?

Thanks

Absolutely. Of course you should. Ring first thing.

Definitely doctor. Mine did that, was oozing and dripping (sorry!) and I felt really lousy, but I got anti biotics and dressings. They didn’t re-stitch it, like I thought, as they won’t want to seal any infection in. It cleared up fine after a week.

I had this when DS was 4 months old. I had gone to the GP a couple of times because it was so painful and got fobbed off. Then one day i burst open quite dramatically - turned out that. there had been an abscess underneath. I had to get it cleaned out and dressed every day for two weeks which was good fun with a baby and a toddler!

Please see a medical professional and insist on it being checked. Good luck

I had two lots of antibiotics for my infected wound. I was very overweight so overhand was warm and wet.

Thank you so much for the replies. Have the first lot of baby immunisations tomorrow so will ring and see if I can get seen by the doctor while I am in for that.

I thought it was just normal pain operation pain until I properly checked myself. OH kept saying it looked fine

See your GP. Mine was similar at 6 weeks and they were surprised to see me but agreed it was infected and gave antibiotics.

If you are bf mention it and if you need antibiotics ask for one which don't affect the taste of your milk. Also mention that you're bf to the pharmacist when you pick them up- sometimes GP's dont listen re the bf thing Confused

...and don't have a bath with bath oils or creams. I remember being told that and was absolutely gutted as I was really looking forward to one!!
