About a year ago after some blood tests my doctor told me that I should be taking vitamin D tablets as I was low. I could never seem to get an answer as to how low.

I have been taking one tablet everyday since. I also have B12 injections and just had one.

But I am still feeling crap. And wondered if I need to up the amount of Vit d I take.
If u take them how many iu’s do you take a day.

I have tried to get my doctor to let me re take the blood test but he says that I should just keep taking the ones from the chemist and basically brushed me off.
But I am extremely tired all the time and lethargic and my muscles in my arms and legs hurt. I’m only 44. But feel like I’m 98.
How many do u take daily. My tablets are 1000iu. I take one a day. Will it harm me to up it and take more. I asked my doctor this as well but never got an answer as he just said all tablets are different. Not helpful. Why are doctors not helpful.

Also to add I am dairy free due to a dairy intolerance.

Ideally 4000iu but if you have a deficiency, you can take more than that for a period of a couple months. I took 4000iu and then once a week would do a mega dose of 15,000-20,000iu. Some people only do one big dose once a week, etc.

I wouldn't do that without gp input though. I'd maybe stick to the maximum recommended as you can't get your levels tested

My prescription is 50,000ui each vitamin D capsule. I also have monthly B12 injections but initially had two weeks of a loading dose of it. I'm not sure what good one would do.

When I was found extremely Vit D deficient through blood tests (surprisingly) looking for something else.
I had to take a 25000 unit a day dose for a 2 months & now just take a 1600 unit a day dose.
My GP prescribes my Vit D3 & also iron tablets as I'm anaemic (heavy periods)
I would go back to your GP practice & see a different doctor.

This is really helpful. I’m going to up it to the safe amount of more than what I’m taking now. I just want to feel more i want to be able to exercise when I get home from work not have to go to bed to sleep.
