Anyone got any idea what this could be ………

before I bin it ? Bit cautious about just throwing it away as, after a similar drawer sorting session , I threw away a vital connector for a hand pump which caused much muttering.

This is sturdy black plastic , about 3” long, , with 6 little knobs on it, and two notches cut out. Peel off backing to self adhesive back.

Could be coat rack for very tiny fairies but otherwise am baffled.

Could be some sort of cable organiser I.e. you wrap cables around the notches to keep them from tangling?

I'd ask others in the house and if no takers, off for a new life in the bin.

JellyfishandShells · 10/06/2020 16:10

The knobs are too small to wrap anything around larger than sewing thread and the other person in the house is my DH who is equally baffled.

Hmm.

Something to do with arts and crafts? Like an embroidery thread holder?

JellyfishandShells · 10/06/2020 16:28

I am quite 'crafty' and can't quite see how it would work for that - good idea, though !

Coat rack for the borrowers?

Something to do with knitting, crochet etc, maybe to stop multiple coloured threads getting tangled up? That's a total guess BTW, I don't participate in any crafts and I don't think it would be wise to start in a house ruled by cats.

If you're in Reddit, upload it to What is this thing. The stuff I've seen people identify is incredible.

Anyonebut · 10/06/2020 16:46

I have no idea what it is, but for some reason it makes me think about musical instruments, like something to keep guitar strings in place, maybe?

AdaColeman · 10/06/2020 16:46

Wall mounted rack for set of cutlery or spatulas or whisks etc for a food mixer.

Bohomie · 10/06/2020 16:52

Looks like it goes on the end of something. Similar to what attaches to the ends of my son's bed slats

You might have missed the bit where I said it was 3" long ! Unless my first thought about fairies was the right one.........

I'm not on there, as a rule, but it might be worth it to find out !

Had a necklace/bracelet on it?
Or a fairy coat rack (if you don't have Borrowers

JellyfishandShells · 10/06/2020 17:01

This might give a better sense of relative size

@JellyfishandShells join with caution, if you think you spend Mumsnet, you'll be spending days on Reddit! Grin

JustC · 10/06/2020 17:57

I've racked my brain and showed it to hubs. No idea. When not entirely sure, I keep, for same reason you mentioned in innitial post, I've been known to throw away stuff we actually needed 😁

TerrorWig · 10/06/2020 18:05

It looks like one of those things that come off the back of a toy - normally has those tie things holding the toy to a cardboard backing?

DotBall · 10/06/2020 18:07

I think it’s for when knitting with different wool colours in a garment to keep them separate.

Sausagis · 10/06/2020 18:21

I've had something in a cracker that looked almost identical. It wall mounts and holds cables (imagine the usb part wedged at the top between the bobbles).

That sounds like the most likely explanation - although there doesn’t seem to be quite enough room between the bobbles ( better word than the knobs I said !)

Solved ! @Sausagis was right about it being a Christmas Cracker toy/object. Googled Christmas cracker cable tidy and a Tweet exchange between a puzzled customer and Waitrose customer service came up.

Usually get my crackers from Waitrose, so highly likely. Still don’t see how it could work IRL but it’s a cracker filler so maybe that expectation is a bit high @!

Thanks all, can considerately dispose with a clear conscience .
