Trans men vs trans women

I know there are already a million threads on this subject so I might have missed this.

I've only recently started really learning about different viewpoints. When I was using social media (especially Facebook), most of my 'friends' were of the opinion that 'trans women are women.' Since starting to use MN again, I've come across very different viewpoints. Ultimately, I don't really care what other people do to their bodies but when I've thought about it in depth, I wouldn't date a trans man nor would I be comfortable with a trans woman using the same fitting room as my DD.

Anyway, my question is, do people feel more sympathetically to trans men than they do trans women? I'm not saying anyone is 'bashing' trans women but less focus seems to be on trans men, even when JK Rowling's comments were in response to 'people who menstruate,' which includes trans men. Hope this isn't too garbled!

I just googled Fletcher and the scars made me cry

I'm guessing a lot of trans men in person will be small with small hands which isn't as obvious in a photo.

@Bunnymumy

I dont see how someone being how they want to be has anything to do with politics though. Surely it's a very personal battle.

I mean, I'm a feminist but you dont see me marching in any rallys or... hating blokes like a mental radical. Everybody is different. I'm sure for example, a lot of trans people are still against the idea of trans women competing in womens sport. Not everyone things the same just because they have similar life experiences.

The dick thing...hmm...cant say u have much thought to mens willie's tbh. I'm sure it would be odd but I'm much more interested in buff chests and kissing anyway so I doubt it would bother me much what was between their legs. I like what I like...and that would be that xD

Trans ideology is political as is gender criticism. A trans person is more than likely going to believe in trans ideology and reject gender criticism.

There are small men though, I have larger hands and am taller than a lot of men and I’m a biological woman who isn’t even that tall (5ft 7). I don’t think them being short with small hands would make anyone assume that they are trans?

SnuggyBuggy · 10/06/2020 16:46

No but I do think you can convince people of all sorts in a photo that you couldn't in real life. A lot of transwomen with the right make up can pass in photos but not real life too.

Bunnymumy · 10/06/2020 16:50

I saw him on Shameless and probably wouldn't have questioned it if the character himself wasnt trans. Would just have thought he was a young lad.

Though tbf he is still prettier as a guy than I am as a girl xD I'm not jealous...honest... xD

Elsiebear90 · 10/06/2020 16:54

I think on the whole, at least the trans men I’ve seen pass, and that’s seeing them on videos and in pictures. Even the ones where I think hmm you look a bit feminine, would still probably pass as some biological men do naturally look more feminine, and it’s not to an extreme degree. I think this is maybe why we hear from them less? Because they have transitioned and for the most part can live as their preferred gender, so they’re happier and face less issues?

SnuggyBuggy · 10/06/2020 16:55

Also the fact that the youthful androgynous look is fashionable must help.

Campervan69 · 10/06/2020 17:03

The worry for trans men I think is that they age very badly. They soon go bald and testosterone when injected gives a female body a really hard time. Some trans man that I was speaking to on Twitter said you very rarely see a trans man over 60 I don't know how true this is but they all seem to die early for some reason.

Bunnymumy · 10/06/2020 17:11

Well tbf, they haven't bern doing gender reassignment for that long have they? At least not to the extent they are now. So that might also explain why there aren't many 60 odd year old trans guys about.

Seems to be an awful lot of younger women making the change now. I definately think a lot of them do it for the wrong reasons tbf. There will be a lot of reversals down the line, poor souls.

SnuggyBuggy · 10/06/2020 17:11

I can imagine on both sides when dreaming of transition you focus on the young sexy appearance of the opposite sex. Obviously you aren't going to spend most of your life in the young stage and I wonder if aging is harder to accept for people who transition.

MaleficentsCrow · 10/06/2020 17:15

Campervan I also read that transmen doe earlier than transwomen. 😔 Very sad.

I can't imagine a lifetime of pumping testosterone in to a body not designed to take it at such high levels has negative impacts. 😔
