Birthing experience of black women at hospitals in the essex area: Broomfield, Queens and Basildon

Hello Ladies,

I wanted to firstly say that the goal of this thread isn't too divide but get insight as a first time mum trying to find the best place to have my baby. Unfortunately The chance of death is 1 in 2,500 for black women according to the UK Confidential Enquiry into Maternal Deaths. But the rate was five times smaller for white women between 2014 and 2016. Unfortunately these rates haven't improved since the study has been conducted.
So based on this i naturally feel nervous and would like to do some research.

I've spent hours reading reviews and birthing experience from all women at the hospital above. However i haven't gained much insight.

So i would like to ask on this platform if any black women has given birth at Queens, Broomfeild or basildon. Please share your personal experience.

Thank you

That’s horrendous!
Unfortunately I don’t have first hand experience but bumping your thread.

I haven't given birth in any of those places but have you considered getting a Doula? I know you shouldn't have to, but a lot of women (of all colours) do so that they have someone who can advocate for them when they are at their most vulnerable. Sometimes a DH/DM just doesn't cut it or others don't have those people in their lives.
I only suggest this as I worked with a wonderful team of Doulas who have protected many women from harm and distress. I see how much value they have.

If nothing else, my comment at least bumps the thread.

@FTMF30 Thank you for your feedback and i have started looking into working with a doula. I definitely see the value in having someone in the room who also has taken a bit more time to get to know me perosnally and my birth plan. I understand things don't always go to plan, but i would at least want to be aware when things change or have all the options given to me.

Thank you again

I had DD at Broomfield Hospital. I did some research at the time and it was my preferred hospital. My opinion of the hospital compared to the others you mention remains the same now.
