washing machine smells AFTER maintenance wash??

...even though it DIDN'T smell before Confused. In an unusual fit of housewifeliness I ran a maintenance wash at 90 degrees with bio powder on Monday. Since then it whiffs. Musty. I've obviously unleashed some sort of hidden muckiness, but any ideas on how to sort this?

Run another hot wash. Clean out filter and dispenser drawer

I've started using Calgon tablets and it's got rid of the smell in my whiffy machine!

thanks. I scrubbed the dispenser drawer and surround to within an inch of it's life but haven't done the filter. We're in a soft water area so I haven't needed Calgon, but may need to now!

Another hot wash with soda crystals?

Also, put a generous splash of of zoflora in the fabric softener drawer when running a maintenance wash. In the final rinse it will kill off any lingering bacteria that are causing smells.

Ok

How do you clean out the filter? I didn’t even know that this was a thing!!

ExpletiveDelighted · 10/06/2020 09:26

It's behind a little flap at the front bottom of the machine usually. Have lots of old towels handy, water tends to gush out.

When mine stunk after boil washes it was because there was a manly sock stuck in the pipes, it was too far inside for me to remove by just cleaning the filter.

Ganja, the filter to mine is at the bottom right. You remove the cover, use something to catch the dribble of dirty water and pull out the horrible fluff and gunk that is stuck there.

My machine smelt like a musty damp smell. I'd thoroughly cleaned the inner rubber thing around the door but had neglected the outside closest to the door if that makes sense? It was mouldy 🤮. Gave it a good scrub and make sure the door is left fully open overnight now and seems fine now

Put some cloths or towels in run at 90 with vinegar in the conditioner drawer and powder your smell should go and also leave the door open to dry out the drum.

Filter cleaned, got a pound out of it for my troubles Grin, as well as some interesting muck. I will give it another whirl today with some zoflora, and get some Calgon at the weekend if that fails.
