Immediate relief from anxiety?

I'm sat with anxiety probably at 7 out of 10. It's all I can focus on.

I tried to confront someone who was playing games and being facetious. I ended up coming out feeling crap and worrying about what I'd said and if I did the right thing.

I don't know why I care so much about what they think.

For those who suffer with anxiety, what helps with instant calming/relief?

Morning all,

I had a decent night's sleep so I've woken up feeling less sick and without that feeling of impending doom.

Everyone's suggestions are really helping too so thank you 😊

I'm going to call my GP today to try to book an appointment.

It's nearly the weekend so I'm clinging onto that.

My Dd has an anxiety disorder. When she is getting wound up some of the things that help are:

Deep breathing techniique, so in through the nose for 5, hold for 7, out through the mouth for 8. Really focus on your breath.

Outdoor exercise, even if it's just going for a walk.

Distraction - she bakes or does some mandala colouring.

Just Dance, that burns off a ton of energy and makes her laugh.

Try a quick burst of exercise to get your heart pumping. In acute bursts of anxiety I've taken to jumping up and down or running up the stairs a few times. Helps out my racing heart to good use

My Dr was amazing. I had a telephone appointment and she gave me propranolol to take for a week and then ad hoc if I need to.
She also gave me diazepam to keep for when things get really bad.

I feel relieved but now worried about potential weight gain (eating disorder 😔). I will take them though as I know I need them right now.

So glad your Dr was helpful Smile

I didn’t know weight gain was a side effect of either drug? I’ve never noticed that at all (I’ve taken both). Also you won’t notice if you’re only taking for a week and then ad hoc. Not meaning to dismiss your fears, but it does sound like this worry is exacerbated by your ED and probably won’t be noticeable.

Good luck, I hope your weekend is more relaxed and peaceful Flowers

Thank you 😊 I am definitely overthinking it and reading too much Internet.

I'm looking forward to the weekend. I plan on reading MN and not doing much else.
