11 month old still in 6-9 clothes?

My baby hasn't been weighed since he was 6 months, and can't be now during all this obviously at least not by our health visitor. He looks healthy, is happy but is still in 6-9 clothes, he even fits in a couple of 3-6 month things albeit stretchy ones. Not sure if I need to flag this up or if he's just a smaller baby?

I wouldn’t worry, just as much as adult clothes size can vary massively so can kids clothes.

My ds is nearly 4 and still wears shorts for. 1.5-2 year old. He literally has no waist. He’s within the weight ratio for his age, he’s just short and skinny but has always been like this.

If your concerned weigh you child using normal scales and then look at the centile chart in your red book. If your child has dropped massively from the centile line they were on have a chat with your health visitor or your gp.

Do you have scales at home? Weigh yourself. Then weigh yourself holding baby. The difference between the two is baby's weight.

If baby has markedly dropped down the centile chart compared with his birth centile (normally we worry about a drop of 2 centiles or more, unless baby was small at birth, in which case we worry about a drop of 1 centile or more), then speak to your health visitor or GP.

I wouldn't worry about it. I agree with pp's suggestions regarding weighing at home and seeing if the centile has changed.

My eldest started school in age 2-3 trousers, but he was an absolute dot.

Totally normal, they come in all different sizes. Mine was definitely not in 9-12 months clothes at 11 months. My 2.5 year old is still in 1.5-2 year clothes. Neither ridiculously small. As long as still eating well, sounds fine.

DappledThings · 09/06/2020 17:10

DS is 4. He wears some 3-4 tops and some 4-5 ones. Trousers and shorts are all 18-24 months still. Pants are 2-3. It's all fine!

PorpentiaScamander · 09/06/2020 17:12

Both mine were in 6-9 months until they were 1+.
DS2 was still wearing age 7- 8 pants when he was 11 Grin
Then he had a massive lockdown growth spurt. He's 5ft5 now and in mens clothes all of a sudden.

timeforawine · 09/06/2020 17:14

My daughter had a pair of trousers, age 6-12m, she's now nearly 4 and they still fit her waist, they are cropped trousers now Grin
They all fit differently

Longdaysandnights · 09/06/2020 17:17

How are you and your partner built? My 5 month old is wearing 6-9 and 9-12 month clothes but I’m 6”1 and my partner is 6”5 we are not concerned that he is already a long baby.

mylittleavalon · 09/06/2020 17:22

My DD is almost 11 months and still in some 6-9months, prob would fit stretchy 3-6 too. Also can't be weighed. I'm not worried as she looks healthy and happy

UnderTheBus · 09/06/2020 18:13

Some babies are just smaller, and he is only one size behind. You could get on the bathroom scales to get a rough estimate of his weight.

Alternatively have you tried contacting your HV? Ours said if there was a concern they could bring scales over which you could disinfect and weigh the baby yourself. They have a phone service and text service. If you're concerned it might be worth getting in touch

Camomila · 09/06/2020 19:16

DS1 has always been in clothes one size behind his age, but he's always been in the normal range for centiles/BMI.
DS2 is a big chubby looking baby and fits clothes for the age range he is.

There's a big range of 'normal', and different shops come up bigger or smaller.

This was my DD! She's only around 23lbs and will be 2 in July. I'm petite and so is she. Just only just edging into 18-24 now, and some of the trousers are still big! She can still quite easily fit 12-18. The trousers are just starting to get a little short on her. She regularly wears 12-18 tops!
