What is this? Food I think..

Found in the back of the pantry, I thought it might be some sort of dried mushroom so started soaking in cold water. BUT it now smells spicey, slightly Christmassy.

Ideas?

Stuffing mix?

What did the packet look like ?

Mulled wine mix?

demented pixie, could be - quite a heavily spiced mix, no sense of herbs etc. DD says she can smell orange in there as well as cinnamon/allspice types.

YouDirtyMare, it was a plain cellophance bag, with a price ticket from our local health food shop.

Chatons, ah now that's a possibility.

Looks a bit like mixed citrus peel.

It looks a little like it's fermenting and I wondered whether it might be dried yeast but mulling spices is more likely I think. I'm tempted to try to do something with it, but it must be years old......

Indian bombay mix - those snacks in take-aways .
Otherwise candied nuts mix for a cake .

Second photo looks like there bits of dried citrus peel at the top but not sure if it is!

It looks like there mulled wine / cider mix .
You are ment to simmer the dried mix in wine or cider for about 10 mins . .
I don't think I would fancy drinking the water you have got there on its own but you could try mixing a bit with vodka or gin .

AlCalavicci, great minds! I asked dh if I could use his rum (no) so I shall do something exciting with gin

I think DH should let you borrow some of his rum in the interest of Alchemy , but I guess gin will do if he is been boring
