Hypnosis did it work for you? Need help asap

Booked a hypnotherapy app for Monday.
I posted recently as I’ve gained lots of weight (11stone to 17stpne) in 3 years.
Due to comfort drinking and then eating.
I have to stop drinking I drink 4-5 beers every day then stuff myself on bad food choices. This started as a result of ptsd now it’s just a horrible habit I cannot break.
Has anyone tried hypnosis? Did it work? How long did it take
Or did it not work at all?

I did for a phobia. Worked instantly! Would do it again if I had to.

Did you have to have many sessions?

I'm sorry that you're struggling, but I'm afraid that I've tried hypnosis for weight loss several times (including a celebrity one that supposedly makes you believe you've had a gastric band fitted). None worked. I've since lost a lot of weight by low-carbing, which helped dampen my sugar addiction, but this was many years later.

It's such a difficult one. Overeating is an addiction that I will always suffer from and I still have days when I uncontrollably binge eat. The only difference now is that I make myself get back to the low-carbing every Monday morning and do it for as many days as I can at a time. The other thing that has helped is joining a gym with a buddy that I am accountable to so, even if I've eaten a load of shit, I still go. It's a gym that is full of beautiful people too, so that sometimes helps when I want to crack. Lockdown has been hard due to not being able to go to the gym and the bad days happen much more often. Currently on Day 3 of a good run, after 3 days of terribleness. I was 10 stones overweight. I've lost 6 stones, with about 4 stones left to lose. It's hard and done days are soul destroying, but I keep plodding along and trying to lose it all.

My advice would be to somehow break the cycle; initially by changing everything about your routine, then add in exercising and low-carbing.

Good luck 🍀

@LittlePeepoToy

Well done you for taking the first step! That's often one of the hardest things to do.

I've really struggled with my weight for all of my adult life as well as through much of childhood. I massively overeat and have a HUGE appetite. About 4 years ago I was 1lb under 17 stone. Unfortunately this was a few years after having multiple sessions (4 or 5 I think) of hypnosis for weight loss. Although I did lose a bit at the time it all piled back on and wasn't a permanent fix. I did enjoy the sessions and they were very comforting, but it didn't address my overall problem.

Eventually when I was in real danger of getting significant health issues and losing my partner I knuckled down and joined slimming world and I lost nearly 4 stone of the 7 I needed to lose. This was nearly 2 years ago.

Unfortunately like many people I struggled to keep it up and I stopped losing. Then I started gaining again and I'm now back up to 15 stone. I gave up on SW and am now simply calorie counting via My Fitness Pal. I did a 5 week 'Fat Club' programme at my gym focusing on High Protein low carb and it really works. It's a bugger to stick to but for me it works.

Sometimes it's as much about finding what works for you and what you can live with then one thing being a 'better' system over others.

Best of luck, I really hope you get amazing results!

@shalligoagain Wow 6 stone - well done you that's fantastic!

glasgow357 · 09/06/2020 17:18

I had just one! It was instant.

shalligoagain · 09/06/2020 17:36

Thanks @RedRocketGirl!

Your battle sounds very similar to mine. It sucks doesn't it?!

I just hope that if we KOKO, we'll eventually be able to keep it off. I do take comfort in the fact that most very slim people I know also have a daily battle with it, it's just their slips aren't quite as monumental as mine.

@LittlePeepoToy it sounds like it works for some people and not for others. Might be worth giving it a go just to help you press the reset button and have a fresh start.

The I can make you thin app (which includes hypnotherapy) by Paul McKenna worked for me.

FizzyPink · 09/06/2020 17:55

I had it for a phobia and it didn’t work at all. I do however suspect it was that the person I went with wasn’t experienced in my type of phobia as she kept telling me about things she’d googled about it Confused

I had 6 sessions I think and she also recorded me 2 mp3s to listen to. I would like to give it another go with a phobia specialist

3rdNamechange · 09/06/2020 18:02

Sorry it didn't work for me. I had three sessions. It might have just been me. Only thing that's worked for me ever is WW. It works if I stick to it but everyone's different. I hope you find something that works for you.

I bought a hypnotherapy app for 5 quid to stop biting my nails with some success. I think theres one called a hypno gastric band or something.

hisnameisfreckles · 09/06/2020 18:08

I went for hypnosis to help with weight loss. (Did not wirk ) After my last session she asked if there was anything else i wanted help with. At that time i was drinking probably 2 x 2 litre bottles of a fizzy drink everyday. So she basically told me i did not like the taste of it any longer. I have not had a drink of it since that day, that was 18 years ago i never even think about it.
