Do you HAVE to use proper bread flour to make bread?

DD has just watched somebody making bread and now she wants to have a go, I love freshly baked bread so am happy to oblige her! However, my local shops are still low on flour and all things baking. I have plenty of plain and SR flour though and I can just order yeast online.

You can make it with plain. It has a different texture but is fine if nothing else. I made hotdog rolls the other day with plain and they were lovely.

Google beer bread. No yeast needed. It’s more dense than normal bread but easy and quick and lovely straight out of the oven.

You can definitely make bread with plain flour, you don't need fancy bread flour!
Have made bread and rolls with plain flour loads of times and always been lovely.

How about Soda bread, if you have some Sodium bicarb !

I use chapatti flour in big bags from Tesco. I use it in my bread maker and there is no difference to me

I’ve been using plain flour since this all kicked off and it’s absolutely fine. I wouldn’t use SR though.

Definitely use the plain flour. Save the SR for yeast free cooking

I also second getting your yeast from using beer as the wet ingredient.

Beer also makes batters and pancakes nicer than using milk I think. Then again DD and I have a problem with dairy so I haven't tasted milk ones in years.
