And fancy a chat? I'm about 3/4 way through and would love to hear some thoughts from others.

I read it a while ago - i enjoyed it but a bit slow in places. I enjoy anything with mythology in it.

I read it last year. I think I preferred it to Song of Achilles even though I enjoyed that as well. Have you finished it yet OP?

Luckystar1 · 11/06/2020 08:44

I read it. I have to say, I wasn’t taken with it at all, it was soooooooo slow. I also felt like I needed a degree in classics to follow a lot of the story (although I did enjoy the mythology).

I read it and absolutely loved it! Have you finished it yet OP?

I read it and loved it too. What I really liked was how Circe's story touched upon the stories of so many other characters from the Greek myths. Before I read Madeline Miller's two books I hardly knew anything about Greek myths - they both educated me so much.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/06/2020 09:01

I started it. Sooooo boring. Didn't finish.

ItchySeveredFoot · 11/06/2020 09:03

I loved it. And Song Of Achilles. She's definitely on my favourite authors list. I knew a little of the greek myths and enjoyed this spin on it.

keiratwiceknightly · 11/06/2020 12:32

Not quite finished it. She's just given birth to Odysseus' child and is struggling to keep him safe from Athena and himself. I'm doing a read along with my old Y13 Lit class and they love it too... we found ourselves discussing how feminist it was yesterday, especially as it totally fails the Bechdel test.

I've just read it, it was beautifully written, and extremely thought provoking. My Year 11 daughter gave it to me for Christmas, having loved it so much herself. DH really enjoyed it also. I loved the ending.

Sockofthefall · 11/06/2020 13:04

I absolutely loved this book !!! Although was not as enthusiastic about Song of Achilles. I enjoyed it so much, I got the Audible version as well . The reader on Audible is excellent as well.

corythatwas · 11/06/2020 13:20

Loved it. Particularly enjoyed the fellowship and loyalty between the ordinary people, the ones who got left behind by Odysseus, at the end of the book.

I'm currently reading it for my book club. I was quite daunted by it initially, not knowing anything about Greek mythology but I love it. It's really brought that world alive and she writes so beautifully. I had to Google some of the names but I'm fascinated by Greek mythology now!

Loved it! Beautifully written. Have since bought it for a few people, wish she would write more.
