Can’t sleep - help!

DH is away. I can’t sleep. Every creak in the house makes me jump. He’s going to be working away during the week for a few months. I just feel like crying. I’m going to have to stay with my parents or MiL aren’t I?

Oh no goodness me, you'll soon get used to it. Before you know it you'll be getting irritated whenever he comes back because he'll be under your feet.

Hi ChocolateLoverMum - hope you are okay?

I have Classic FM on very quietly. Don’t know how I can live like this! I’m fine in the day but night time is awful!

Have you never spent a night alone? I used to be nervous when dh first worked nights but tbf the idea of having to stay with my parents or in laws is more terrifying than any imagined murderer at my door.

You're fine, you'll get used to it. Ask your GP for help with your anxiety.

Dh works away a lot now ( well, before lockdown) and it's totally normal - I have the kids here admittedly but still. You're safe and you're fine. Distract yourself, listen to loud music, nothing bad will happen

Are you on you own or do you have children with you? I used to have a big volt on our bedroom door so that I could sleep whenn my husband was away. When the children were little we all slept together anyway so I just picked us all in together...it helped a bit. Over the years I have mellowed quite a bit and my daughter sleeps in her own room and I leave the door wide open...but sometimes I can completely nfreak myself out still.

As previous poster says maybe put classic Fm on quietly. I always leave a light on far away enough for it not to disturb me but just enough not to be in total darkness.
Or if you have a single friend maybe ask them to stay. X

I used to live alone but a modern one bed flat is a bit different to a 4 bedroom house. Just me here. Sad

The daytime is fine, I don’t even notice the pipes creaking, the fridge occasionally making sounds and the noisy boiler.

I did fall asleep around 3am and slept to 11am. Blush
