I've recently discovered podcasts, I know I'm late to the party.

Anyone got any recommendations for good ones please? It's to listen to while I'm running.

Thank you.

What kind of things do you like?
Roughly what are you looking for?

Minniee · 08/06/2020 21:31

Basically anything, I'm brand new to them and it's a bit over whelming.

I have found some good true crime ones, and also one that's Fern Cotton has done called Happy place which are good.

I also like comedy.

I'm enjoying the distraction it gives me when running so am open to anything.

Thank tou

I listen to Shag, Married, Annoyed which is by Chris and Rosie Ramsey. Just chatting to each other.

If you fancy a running podcast there is marathon talk or bad boy running.

I also like tales. Which is fairy tales, but the original versions (not the disney-fied ones)

Shagged married annoyed makes me laugh. It is Chris Ramsay and his wife Rosie .
S town is true crime . Bit strange but very interesting.
Louis Theroux Grounded is him interviewing celebs during lockdown.

WhatWouldDominicDo · 08/06/2020 21:37

The Crypto Queen

Twilbury · 08/06/2020 21:38

HollowTalk · 08/06/2020 21:38

I've been listening to Louis Theroux interview people on BBC Sounds - really good.

NannyR · 08/06/2020 21:39

If you like something science/medical I can recommend "This podcast will kill you". Each episode is about a different disease or something related like how vaccines and antibiotics were developed and work. It's quite light hearted and easy to listen to and very informative.

DrDavidBanner · 08/06/2020 21:40

Watching with interest, I've jus got into podcasts too. Ones I'm enjoying at the moment are;

Redhanded - True Crime
My Favourite Murder - True Crime
Seeing Red - Another true crime!
Adam Buxton Podcast - Just chat really
Rivals - Musics greatest feuds
You're Dead to Me - History Podcast
Evil Genius - History of famous figures

Readysetcake · 08/06/2020 21:45

This Thing of Darkness was great:

RusholmeRuffian · 09/06/2020 08:19

Athletico Mince

BarbaraofSeville · 09/06/2020 08:47

Scummy Mummies, like a spoken word version of Mumsnet

The infinite monkey cage
Intrigue - crime investigation documentaries
Manhunt
Punt PI
Death in ice valley
Girl taken
Friday night comedy - alternates between the News Quiz and politcal satire
Fake Heiress

All the above are from the BBC but do not use the BBC sounds app to listen, it is embarrassignly bad and not fit for purpose. I use Antennapod unless there is something I really want to listen to that I can only find on BBC Sounds although I'm also currently trying Podcast Addict to listen to Ankle Tag, which is a BBC comedy about a nice middle class couple and his dad who has just been released from prison.

EmmaStone · 09/06/2020 08:54

Have you listened to the first series of Serial yet? That's fantastic - follows a possible carriage of misjustice. It was a spin off from This American Life, which is quite interesting journalistic magazine show - I used to listen to it a lot, but haven't for quite some time as podcasts have moved on so much.

My Favorite Murder - true crime retold by 2 comediennes. Definitely my favourite, although start at or near the beginning as there are quite a few in jokes.

Adam Buxton is good, I especially enjoy his chats with Joe Cornish and Louis Theroux, they're very silly.

Louis Theroux's Grounded - new for lockdown. Really like his interviewing style, loved his interview with Helena Bonham-Carte4.

Paradise - another true crime but a story being reinvestigated by journalists and the victims' families. Great presenter.

Stuff You Should Know - does what it says on the tin. This one's good to listen to with kids. Very likeable presenters.

Once you start listening, there will often be ads and recommendations for others to try out, that's how I've generally gone from one to the next.

Minniee · 09/06/2020 10:28

Just had a great run listening to Louis Theroux on lockdown, I've got loads of other stuff downloaded after all these recommendations.

Thank you Brew

I love A Good Read with Harriet Gilbert.

Really simple formula where the presenter and two guests read and discuss each person's suggested book.

HG is a great host; funny and intelligent.

I always pick up great recommendations.

GrimDamnFanjo · 09/06/2020 10:34

Two Shot? I think that's what it's called? From the actor who played Dot in Line if Duty.
He interviews actors from an actors perspective- it's really interest and he has some great guests. I'll try and find a link.

Out for lunch - Interviews over lunch with Jay Rayner
The Guilty Feminist

Ear Hustle - Podcast made in San Quentin prison in the states very moving.
The Journal - short daily updates American re business / current affairs
Darknet Diaries - brilliant nerdy podcast about hacking stuff not too technical but really fascinating especially re social engineering the episode where someone broke into the wrong bank in Tehran was brilliant

Lots of True Crime stuff:

Dirty John
Death in Ice Valley
Teachers Pet
Dr Death - truly horrifying
Real Crime Profile - interesting review of big cases
The Vanished Podcast

Enjoy!

midwestsummer · 09/06/2020 15:16

I really like fortunately, two middle aged women talking and a guest. Reminds me of Mumsnet.

Desert Diaries- middle aged woman moves with family from England to USA.

Also enjoy a good read.

SlothRunner · 09/06/2020 15:25

nomorefencepostsplease · 09/06/2020 17:00

@EmmaStone

I came on to recommend Paradise but you have beaten me to it. I have just finished listening. Superb presenting and an incredible story. Wish I hadn't looked at the pictures of the real people on-line though!

HollowTalk · 13/06/2020 12:27

Just been listening to Louis Theroux interviewing Miriam Margoyles - anyone heard that? So funny, right up to the very last line. It's for headphones though if you have younger children. It's here.
