What happens at the vets?

I know that I can’t go inside with my cat (understandably) but how will they tell me what’s wrong with her?

I’ve been told the handover will be done outside; will the vet stand and tell me their findings?

Yes. At ours handovers and chat happen in the car park.

You'll have a phone consultation with the vet where they'll ask questions, discuss findings and treatment plans.

We are taking a full history over telephone, pet gets handed over at the door, examined by vet and held by nurse. Vet then calls owner on their mobile to discuss findings and treatment options, owner decides what they want to do, vet provides treatment, prescribes any drugs etc. which are dispensed, receptionist phones owner again to let them know it's all done and take payment by card over phone, and pet and medication is handed back to owner at the door.

The vet rings to talk through the consult and what treatment is needed. Then someone from reception will ring to take card payment. I'm glad payment wasn't face to face, as my jaw hit the floor last time. Doggo always gets ill over a bank holiday.

My poor friend had to have her beloved dog pts a couple of weeks ago and had to say goodbye in the car park and watch the vet nurse walk away with him. It broke her heart. 😥

@CherrySpritz I'm sure OP will find that very reassuring to know......

I went for a jab (well my rabbit went) and collection and return was in the car park with a short “all well, looks fine and claws are shorten as well”. Similar to the lady who collected her dog when we arrived.

Thanks for the replies.

They met me outside, took her in, vet came back out and advised me of the plan (possible skin cancer Sad ) and paid contactless through the glass door.

Aw, hope your cat doesn't have cancer and it's just a scare.

At ours we park in the car park out the back, a vet/nurse collects the pet and then the vet consulting with your pet calls to find out the issue then they call back with the diagnoses and treatment. Then a vet/nurse brings pet back to you and we call reception and sell a kidney or remortgage the house Grin

It all works well i find and haven't found any issues in the last 6 appointments we've had (sick guinea pig)
