How much food for hedgehogs?

We've seen what a hedgehog in our garden for the last couple of nights. Its quite big, definitely bigger than others I've seen previously, so I'm guessing its an adult male. I think hedgehogs are lovely so I'd like to encourage it. I've ordered some hedgehog food online but it wont arrive until next week so I've got some cat food today as all the hedgehog websites I could find recommended that. But I couldn't find anywhere that told me how much to put out. I don't want to overfeed it obviously but it does look like quite a chunky hog! Any ideas how much I should offer?

Sorry, dont know where the random "what" in the first line came from! Confused

I've rescued hedgehogs. When I was feeding two hogs I found a cat dish full of biscuits and wet food (not fish) was more than enough to plump them up nicely.

If only one hog then I'd do half a tin of cat food and a small handful of biscuits (or just the tin food)

Oh and I found dog food cheaper to buy so switched to that. I'd buy massive tins of wet dog food in Aldi/Lidl and a sack of biscuits and it'd last for ages but cost hardly anything

And sorry last thing - always put a bowl of water down too

They don't generally overeat and ime if you've got one you've probably got a few so as much as you like really! Also I wouldn't bother with 'hedgehog food' dried cat biscuits (non-fish flavour) are really good for them and their teeth, also put water out for them in a shallow dish

Thanks both. I've put half a can and some water out and am now observing from a distance. Its been around this time for the last couple of nights so I'm hoping he shows up again.

Ooh we've just seen two feeding simultaneously. So exciting, I love them! Good job nobody is getting up for school tomorrow but then I reckon hedgehog watching is definitely educational.Grin

They are fascinating to watch aren't they. We've seen them fighting before - they ram each other in a very alarming way and can be really noisy grunting at each other!
