Anyone elses school NOT reopening this week?

DD wasn't due to return this week anyway as not in the correct yr group, but we have had an email saying that as the R rate has gone over 1, the school will not be opening. All the schools round here (we are in cheshire) have been to postpone opening by 2 weeks.

Did any of the schools already open on the 1st?

vinoandbrie · 07/06/2020 13:19

I am very much hoping my Y1 is going back tomorrow. At the time of writing it is all systems go, but am in the NW and worried we may receive an email any minute pulling the plug.

Teacher12345 · 07/06/2020 13:30

No they oly been open to key workers at the moment.

Not opening possibly for 2 weeks. NW

thismeansnothing · 07/06/2020 13:45

I'm in the NW although they've been open to keep worker staff (they can only accommodate 12 of those) they decided before the county council guidance was released to delay letting anyone else come back. Not heard what date they are working to now.

CurlsandCurves · 07/06/2020 13:53

There’s no room for DS (yr6) to go back.

Order of priority is children of key workers, then reception, yr1 and finally yr6. And after accommodating the other 3 groups there is no room for any yr6 other than key worker children.

The official line is that the situation is constantly under review but unless social distancing is relaxed there’s no way for my son to return at all.

DS2 (yr10) is going back w/c 22nd for 2 hours a week. 2 lessons, back to back in 1 classroom. There’s a timetable in place for what lessons will take place each week.

CurlsandCurves · 07/06/2020 13:54

I’m East Midlands by the way

Zoomintheroom · 07/06/2020 14:01

We're in Cheshire East and pupils are not going back until June 15th anyway. Given that the R rate is now above 1 in the NW I'm wondering if that will get pushed back.

KerryMucklowe · 07/06/2020 14:02

Keyworkers only until next week.

Crunchymum · 07/06/2020 14:04

Ours (central London) postponed the opening until tomorrow and they are only taking Y6.

They'll take Y1 two weeks later and R from 6th July depending on what the situation is / how things are working.

They've taken key worker and vulnerable kids all along.

I have a Y2 and R and my Reception child was never going back the toddler is on the shielding list. It felt too experimental to send her in when the 1st if June was being bandied about and come 6th July it just wouldn't be worth it for a few weeks? Plus the toddler is obviously still at risk.

My Y6 nephew went back last week (different school) all fine.

cabbageking · 07/06/2020 14:16

We have keys workers as usual and Reception class went back on the 2nd.

ShiningTor · 07/06/2020 14:25

@Zoomintheroom the exception to that is early years - maintained settings are to follow same advice as schools and colleges, privately owned settings opened to all on 1st 🤷🏻‍♀️

Zoomintheroom · 07/06/2020 15:01

@ShiningTor Sorry, I keep rereading your post and don't understand it. The exception to what is early years?

KilljoysDutch · 07/06/2020 15:06

We're in Nottingham and the council are hoping to make an announcement this week about when they will be reopening schools. So no idea basically when anyone is going back.

Aragog · 07/06/2020 15:08

My school is accepting more pupils on the 15th. We've been open to KW and vulnerable children all the time - we didn't close. Those groups come to approx 20% of our school and the numbers have increased greatly. This week we will have 4 KW/vulnerable key stage 1 (and/or siblings) classes and 2 reception (KW only til 15th) classes. After the 15th the reception classes will increase by 1-3 extra classes. We are monitoring this as numbers are creeping up daily for the potential returners.

We didn't open on the 1st and were never going to as we needed some orders to come in in time and they couldn't be delivered in time. We were due to start reception tomorrow but the LEA instructed all their maintained schools to remain closed until the 15th, so we put it back a week.

We aren't able to offer our year 1s access at this tune due to physical classroom space.

We are infants only so no year 6.

Aragog · 07/06/2020 15:09

Oh and we are in South Yorkshire

ShiningTor · 07/06/2020 15:15

@Zoomintheroom Cheshire East required privately owned early years settings to open to all on 1st June.

lucysmam · 07/06/2020 15:19

The school where I work is not opening until 15th at the earliest (apart from keyworker dc - now 2 bubbles rather than the previous 1).

However, I think all our teachers/ta's/definitely MDSA's have been accounted for with just the YR, 1 and 6 who will be coming back. Apart from those in shielding groups.

We're waiting to see what happens next.

(Also South Yorks).

Puddlesplasher · 07/06/2020 15:21

@ShiningTor That makes sense now! Your sentence that is, Cheshire East's policy seems bonkers.

Just had confirmation that the council are meeting on Monday to discuss the R rate and whether to delay school reopening further.

Comefromaway · 07/06/2020 15:22

We are right on the border of Staffordshire & Cheshire. The staffs schools are back. The Cheshire ones are not opening.

AdalindMeisner · 07/06/2020 15:25

In the nw and schools advised not to open yet by County Council. No date given but I'm suspect we (yr R in our case) at our school won't be back this term - our school were already setting work/challenges etc but have stepped it up another level.

Cherrybakewellard · 07/06/2020 15:32

Our school is small and due to the bubble structure we have been told they can only accommodate 27 children out of 270. The rest are on a waiting list.
Even keyworker children are on a waiting list as they are at capacity.

HelloCanYouHearMe · 07/06/2020 15:37

West mids - local primaries apparently failied the local authority risk assessment last week so no word yet on when they will be reopening.

Oblomov20 · 07/06/2020 15:39

Same As Curls, no space for Ds2, Year 6, last week.
I was a bit peeved actually.

But now I read that with R over 1, most schools, across the UK will be closing again.

So presumably we'll all get emails from school to tell us so?

So the fact Ds2 didn't get a place could now be irrelevant ?

ShiningTor · 07/06/2020 15:40

Sorry for being confusing!

I'm on Staffs border too. 😊
