Meno musings about hormone sensitivity

This was just something that I woke up wondering about.

I have never been particularly susceptible to hormonal changes. I had some spotting during my first pregnancy, but otherwise no real problems. I never had real morning sickness during any of them, just vaguely queasy feelings occasionally. I've never had PMS either.

Now I am post menopausal. I had no real menopausal symptoms. Vanishingly rare hot flushes. No mood swings.

Is there a connection? Do those who have severe pregnancy symptoms tend more towards tougher menopauses? Did you? My only other post-meno contact was similar to me, no real pregnancy problems and a very smooth menopause. Is it connected or just sheer lucky fluke?

Well, in the years leading up to Meno (I presume now that I was in peri, but had had a partial hysterectomy so didn't realise) I developed Urticaria among other symptoms, and that made me remember at least 2-3 years as a teenager when I was just really itchy all the time (never saw GP about it). So there has to be a hormonal link I guess? I never had problems with periods (regular, not too heavy), but I was always ridiculously sensitive to the side effects of hormonal contraceptives. I think not nearly enough research has been done to date, because we are just half the population of course.

Thanks Scrap. I agree if men went through menopause there would be one hell of a lot of research done into how to make it easier.... I bet 'Menopause Leave' would have come in somewhere along the line!

Interesting. I have had a restart of the slightly weird type of panic attacks I had as a teen. My dr put me on the mini pill as a trial and they pretty much went. Her theory was they were mostly hormone driven.

I always had a lot of pms - v sore boobs, spots, dreadful crying and anxiety plus hot flushes just before my period. This was from teens to now in my 40s. God help me over the next few years if your theory holds water.........

It's not even a theory, fairyfingers so don't worry! It was just a thought! Hopefully I am completely wrong and you will sail through.
