Bastard Tupperware cupboard

I keep a fairly tight rein, but still the twatting tops and bottoms separate themselves, then the single interlopers (lids usually) move in when we’re out.
When they’ve gathered enough collective force they decide to throw themselves at my feet. Ejected from their home because I need a pot to store some baked beans in. They’ve figured that I need them more than they need me. Bastards.

Don't allow lids in without their other halves. They cause havoc, changing shape so you can't match them up any more. Bastards. They need to be accompanied.

Hagisonthehill · 06/06/2020 23:09

There is only myself and DD and we also have large cupboard of Tupperware/plastic storage.
It is used for packed lunches/dinners and all the thing that come in plastic containers with a peeling plastic top only. Then there are left overs, the odd half lemon/onion.Storage for the freezer.
One minute you have nothing of the right size then the cupboard is full again.
I use an otherwise unusable corner cupboard and wound dearly love a kitchen big enough to properly store them in drawers so lid are easily found.

I sorted out my cupboard by getting rid of all the mismatched stuff and getting a set of tubs, all the same size and shape, that way the boxes stack neatly inside each other and all the lids for all the boxes. I got really robust ones from ikea that don't warp or crack and they've lasted years.

NannyR · 06/06/2020 23:18

all the lids FIT all the boxes!

Snooks1971 · 06/06/2020 23:19

@Crikey0000 I’ve never allowed single unaccompanied lids in. My cupboard door policy is strict, but still they appear. I think they shape shift.

Nanny I’ve got some lovely Ikea storage but can’t stop saving things (to use later)

@Hagisonthehill be careful what you wish for - bigger cupboards equals more storage of twatty lids and mismatched bottoms. IMO

I have found my people!

Also have a big problem with unaccompanied pan lids and single socks.

Snooks1971 · 06/06/2020 23:35

Danger - at least those bastard single socks don’t chuck themselves at you, but yes I agree!

I use a drawer with a tension rod to separate the lids. Game changer

Took · 06/06/2020 23:38

I threw out all tupperware a decade ago and haven’t missed it one bit.
Free yourself from Tupperware Tyranny!

Hagisonthehill · 06/06/2020 23:44

I have to almost climb in my cupboard to get to the back.I do have a wire basket in the middle where smaller containers, salad dressing and odd lids that I daren't throw away because the moment I do I'll find the bottom.
Every now and then I reach breaking point, empty it and resort/stack things. Most have their tops on but that does take up so much room.

Hagisonthehill · 06/06/2020 23:45

Took, what do you store food in/pack lunches in?

H1978 · 06/06/2020 23:50

I have a room in my basement dedicated to Tupperware and agree on the mismatched boxes and lids, it’s like the lids just walk away and you’re left with lidless boxes Hmm

DelurkingAJ · 06/06/2020 23:55

I saw it suggested once that every so often a sick spontaneously mutates into a plastic lid. You all know it’s the only explanation that fits all the facts.

DelurkingAJ · 06/06/2020 23:55

A sock mutates...stupid fat finger typing!

ClientQ · 06/06/2020 23:57

I have revolutionised my cupboard by purchasing glass boxes with plastic lids. Batch cook and into freezer, they're oven proof without the lid and microwave too
Plus they don't seem to shape shift. Yet

Tinty · 06/06/2020 23:58

I have so many Tupperware pots, chinese containers, lunchboxes and water bottles, that I am at the stage where I open the cupboard door, throw the Tupperware in and slam the door quickly shut. Smile

It’s only a problem if someone else opens the Tupperware cupboard of doom BlushGrin.

Pieceofpurplesky · 06/06/2020 23:59

Mine reproducing. I have a cull every few months and a week later the cupboard is full again. I think I have a ghost of a lady in polyester slacks and a twins set who sells the bloody stuff and store it my cupboard

VenetoResident · 07/06/2020 00:07

I sorted mine out two years ago when we moved and everything was reunited.

But now I only use takeaway tubs. I order 50 at a time from Amazon. I find I need more about once a year - mainly because DH is too rough with them when they have frozen food in.

We use them for everything. Probably 10 per day get put in the dishwasher.

SierraOscar · 07/06/2020 00:22

I bought some Tupperware from Aldi, it was pack of 5 - it came with 6 lids. There bred before I even started using them.

Molocosh · 07/06/2020 00:29

My toddler loves to play in the Tupperware cupboard - it’s the only one he’s allowed to open because there are no breakables inside. He’s like a Tupperware pollinator who carries them all around the house into dark corners where they quietly multiply into boxes and more boxes with no matching lids.

MrsMoastyToasty · 07/06/2020 00:31

In our house that cupboard is known as the Avalanche Cupboard.

Paranoidmarvin · 07/06/2020 06:46

I have two baskets. One for tubs and one for lids. I also now only have matching sets that sit inside of each other. So I store them in size order. Same for the lids as well. Everything in size Order.
I’m pretty fussy about it. But since I stepped up my Tupperware neatness game my life is better and much calmer Grin

Aria20 · 07/06/2020 07:06

@ClientQ where did you get glass with plastic lids?
