Bastard Tupperware cupboard

I keep a fairly tight rein, but still the twatting tops and bottoms separate themselves, then the single interlopers (lids usually) move in when we’re out.
When they’ve gathered enough collective force they decide to throw themselves at my feet. Ejected from their home because I need a pot to store some baked beans in. They’ve figured that I need them more than they need me. Bastards.

I sorted the cupboard by not using it. I have 1980s Tupperware that's still going strong but I got sick of kneeling on the kitchen floor dragging eight lids out to find one that fitted. I bought myself a new set of ten pots (the lids are designed to stack too) and I keep them on top of the freezer. The cupboard of doom is still in use for cake boxes and bigger boxes but the ones I use most often are safely stacked on top of the freezer. Ten wasn't enough but the idea was sound so I bought ten more.

I don't have tupperware, I have repurposed plastic takeaway trays and lids, which get used for batch cooking.They have the same ability to spring from a cupboard when they see daylight.

I share your pain about the stupid separating lids and pots. However, I stopped my bastard tupperware from jumping out at me by keeping it in a deep drawer instead of a cupboard!

Snooks1971 · 07/06/2020 21:00

When I said Tupperware I meant any plastic food storage system really. Ice cream tubs, takeaway containers, including all those bought for their specific purpose.
Unfortunately they are all bastards. Whether there is some sort of internal warfare or class system within the Tupperware cupboard I’m not sure, it could explain things though. I bet they come alive at night, just to piss us off.

Deliberately chose my meal from the takeaway because I knew it came in a plastic box..

Oh, and store boxes with their lids on

Snooks1971 · 07/06/2020 21:34

@topcat2014 but they need to air I always think

@ginnotgym thank you!

@InventedthePostIt

Double whammy in this house. We keep the pots and lids in the same cupboard as the bags for life. The bags help the pots get some real power and height when they spring out of the cupboard.
Oh God, bags for life. That's a whole other storage woe, along with general plastic bags.
BettyCarver · 07/06/2020 23:48

I chucked my bastard lidded microwave bowls and cups in with my tupperware thinking they belong in the same category. They all live in a cupboard with pull out wire baskets. The fucking handles on the cups and bowls stick though the wire and jam the baskets so they won’t pull out.
I can’t reorganise without involving my bag for life cupboard so I’m doomed

Zoomintheroom · 08/06/2020 00:24

@middleager Bags for life are easy. Fold them like samosas and put them in a small box (maybe one of the lidless Tupperware boxes!)

StinkyWizzleteets · 08/06/2020 01:09

My oh keeps all the butter & Marge tubs. They love to escape from the cupboard they share with the cling film that without fail falls out as soon as the door opens. I hate that cupboard.

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 08/06/2020 01:16

I once spent over £200 on Tupperware before moving abroad. I think I now have one pot left (gave the rest to charity shops). That said, I have lots of Chinese takeaway pots...some different shapes to others and often get the wrong lid out...height of irritation!

bnotts · 08/06/2020 05:11

Mine is in a large pan drawer in the iskalns It doesn't fall out. I can find anything. Makes me happy.

That's a very tidy drawer.I think my Tupperware would fill it to the brim .
You do seem to have a high proportion of lids though.

Snooks1971 · 08/06/2020 20:19

@bnotts love your drawer! But yes the ratio of lids to bottoms does look high, I bet you’ve got some singletons in there ‘just in case’ the AWOL bottom decides to reappear (usually overnight whilst you are sleeping).

Lock and Lock are more forgiving. Multiple containers fit a handful of lid sizes. In saying that, I wash them as a pair (lid and container) and they all fit in just one shelf in one cupboard as a fitted pair (lid and container) This system has worked for 3 years so far...
