Title says it all! Is there a book club type thing on mumsnet? If so I'd love to get involved. If not, why not?!

Havent come across book club but would love one myself. Sometimes seen threads suggesting good reads but never enough. Im sick of searching for books and would love some recommendations...

It doesn't seem to exist any more. When I joined there was a free book competition each month, and a discussion with the writer online, it was great. And a regular newsletter. Then it all seemed to stop, not sure why.

Interested in this thread?

Then you might like threads about these subjects:

There’s the 50 books in 2020 thread where people post what they’re reading, with a review. Sometimes people ask for recommendations too.

Sad that book club ended, though. I did send a couple of queries about why it had gone, but nobody seemed to know. I imagine the publishers stopped issuing free books maybe.

Hi all, so sorry - life ran away with me these past few days!

I saw those old threads and it's a shame they are no longer a thing - I'd love the natter of all the thoughts which fly around when reading a new book!

I wonder whether it could work starting up a small group, a little vote on some affordable Amazon buys and an associated thread which runs through the month or something?

I'm also not sure if you would have heard of it but I stumbled upon a small company called 'aboxofstories' who send you a mystery box of four books which have been rated as good reads but perhaps haven't had the marketing budget to 'make it big'.

You can chose a one off box or on a 1/2/3 monthly subscription. I found it really reasonably priced given that it doesn't come with all the extras some of the other subscriptions come with. I'm starting to sound like an advert🤣 now but a nice idea if you're tired of finding books and are open to trying something you might not have otherwise found!

@trynewthings head over to www.mumsnet.com/Talk/what_were_reading if you haven't done so already. As someone has said, there are the 50 books in a year, and the slower paced 26 books in a year threads.

Plus, I think there are also 'readalong' threads where people discuss books (often classics) as they read.

I think people do occasionally try to start 'bookclub' type threads.
