Maternity entitlement

Can anyone explain what maternity entitlement would be for myself? I work a full time job currently and I've looked at what statutory maternity pay would be but it says 90% of your average weekly earnings for the first 6 weeks which i understand but then for the rest of it it says £151.20 or 90% of your wage (whichever is lower).

So are you not entitled to the 90% after the first 6 weeks? If I'm paid around £300 a week currently would i then only get £151.20 a week as thats lower or the 90% because obviously %151.20 is a lot less money?

I am extremely confused and just trying to get my head around things financially if anyone can give some advice. Thanks!

You'd get £151 from week 7.

Statutory maternity pay is around 600 pound a month...

Does your company not do an enhanced package?

QforCucumber · 06/06/2020 15:29

You'll get the basic rate of £151 a week for the remaining 33 weeks unless your company offers an enhanced package.

Yes, you get the £151 a week as long as you normally earn that much or more a week. The 90% only applies to those earning less than that.

So yep week 1 -6 You will get 270 a week
7- 33 - 151 a week
SMP is not great, most people either save beforehand or they have a company maternity pay scheme.
You can do 10 kit days working during it. These are paid at your normal rate

Ok thank you everyone! Been a bit of a weird one because I only found out last week i was pregnant at 32 weeks so its all been a bit of a shock and i'm new to all this so i just wanted to get some information before I spoke to my employer and everything. Me and my partner are furloughed at the minute so I was just a bit worried about things but I'll look into childcare costs and things too in case work don't offer the enhanced package because we have some savings but definitely not enough to cope on £600 a month after the 6 weeks!

If you are furloughed then your pay would be calculated on weeks 18 - 25 so may crossover the furlough pay.

Thank you! I'm thinking they do an enhanced package but I'm calling HR at the company today to double check ☺️

Yes, that sounds right. You only get close to your full pay for the first 6 weeks and then yes, it's around 600 a month til you get to 39 weeks after that. Then obviously whatever your partner is earning too.
