How do you store your drinking glasses?

user5656 · 06/06/2020 14:57

Please help me convince DH that his way of storing wine glasses and tumblers in the cupboard is the wrong way. He puts them upside down whereas I put them upright, the result is a half and half jumble depending on who's emptied the dishwasher but neither of us will concede.
So , how do you store your glasses and what's your reasoning?

Upside down in an Ikea open top glass holder thing.

isseywith4vampirecats · 06/06/2020 15:00

upside down as it stops dust getting into glasses that are not used very often

introv3rt · 06/06/2020 15:02

Upright, not sure why though

Wine & champagne glasses (hardly ever used) - upside down.

Hi-ball & tumblers - right way up.

LST · 06/06/2020 15:02

Upside down. And mugs.

AriettyHomily · 06/06/2020 15:03

Wine glasses upside down anything else right way up. I have no idea why.

Italia2005 · 06/06/2020 15:03

Alternate up and down as this maximises the space!

sahbear · 06/06/2020 15:05

Everything the right way up, but I suppose the ones at the back of the cupboard will get dusty eventually. You are going to want to wash a glass if it hasn't been used for a year before you drink out of it anyway.

happymummy12345 · 06/06/2020 15:05

All glasses and mugs stored upside down to keep them cleaner

ExpletiveDelighted · 06/06/2020 15:06

Upright but the DCs do upside down and so do my parents. I worry about chipping the rims upside down but not enough to turn them if someone else has put them away upside down.

Boringnamechanging · 06/06/2020 15:09

Mixture of both as they take up less space really important in a kitchen the size of a utility room

GCHWho · 06/06/2020 15:09

Upside down keeps the inside clean and reduces the chances of rim being clipped and chipped as others moved in out for storage.

Khione · 06/06/2020 15:15

right way up because the air inside them will be stale if stored on their rims and I don't want the bit that goes in my mouth being stored against a potentially grubby shelf.

Ideally I'd have a rack to store them upside down but not touching the shelf. I did in my old kitchen but it won't fit in my new one.

ArtichokeAardvark · 06/06/2020 15:17

Tumblers right way up. Wine glasses alternating up and down as then I can fit in double as many Grin

kenandbarbie · 06/06/2020 15:18

Right way up as I don't want shelf germs getting on them

mommybear1 · 06/06/2020 15:19

We store upside down as it stops dust / spiders (a fear of mine) getting into glasses that are not used very often.

DelurkingAJ · 06/06/2020 15:19

Upside down here so as not to collect dust. Anything fragile in its box on top of the Welsh Dresser.

user5656 · 06/06/2020 15:19

Seems like a majority of upside down then. I also don't like the idea of the rims touching the shelf, even if it is clean.

Upside down, stops dust getting in but also harder to knock one over as well.

33goingon64 · 06/06/2020 15:26

It's the hill I will die on. Don't store cups or glasses upside down on a shelf! Why would you put the rim (which you put in your mouth) in contact with a surface that isn't cleaned daily? Plus they get a musty, trapped air smell. Why would there be dust inside them in a cupboard? I can't understand why so many people do this!

user5656 · 06/06/2020 15:46

Haha 33goingon64
Sounds like I need you to come to my house.

Upright.

Hate the idea of putting my mouth on a run that's been touching the shelf.

Not rational, but here we are

EspressoX10 · 06/06/2020 15:53

*rim

ProperVexed · 06/06/2020 15:54

In my hand....

dementedpixie · 06/06/2020 15:58

Upside down. Stops dust, spiders, flies getting in
