How do you store your drinking glasses?

Please help me convince DH that his way of storing wine glasses and tumblers in the cupboard is the wrong way. He puts them upside down whereas I put them upright, the result is a half and half jumble depending on who's emptied the dishwasher but neither of us will concede.
So , how do you store your glasses and what's your reasoning?

Right way up. Less chance of knocking them over when I pick them up. And there are no flies in my glass cupboard. Or spiders.

Dobbyhasnomaster · 06/06/2020 16:04

Am I the only one that first read this as ‘drinking glasses’ I.e. special glasses that you wear when you’re having a drink?! 😂🤦‍♀️

Definitely upright though or they get cupboard dirt on the rim!!!

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 06/06/2020 16:05

Upright

At home, they are upright.

At work they are upright...... in drawers.... yes people in drawers!!!

insancerre · 06/06/2020 16:23

Right way up or they trap stale air

I think you are getting confused with beer goggles. Grin

I've done both depending on the cupboard!

If the cupboard is dusty and the glasses used often, upright is best. If the glasses are used seldom and the cupboard is cleam upside down is better.

limesoda · 06/06/2020 17:00

Upside down, in a drawer.

Wine glasses and flutes are hanging from a glass rack I put in under a shelf in a cupboard.

Likethebattle · 06/06/2020 17:06

‘Stale air’ you realise that is rubbish, it’s not making an airtight deal on the shelf and as soon as you move it the air inside is different. Oh I have never read anything as daft....stale air held in cups ffs!

missmouse101 · 06/06/2020 17:10

Air needs to circulate and I don't want to drink from a rim that has been touching an unwashed cupboard shelf. So definitely right way up.

How dirty are your cupboards?!

A glass will not create an airtight seal anymore than a cupboard door will.

H1978 · 06/06/2020 17:13

Right way up in our house for both glasses and cups, even after they’ve been washed. Don’t want the part you drink from to sit in a puddle of water on the counter 🤢

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 06/06/2020 17:13

The right way up. Don't like the idea of rum touching the shelf. And would wash a glass that hadn't been used for a while.

DramaAlpaca · 06/06/2020 17:13

I prefer them right way up.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 06/06/2020 17:14

Upright. We don't have enough glassware and mugs to worry about the ones at the back not getting used.

I'm another that doesn't like the idea of the rim sitting on the surface of the cupboard but I'm a a slattern who hardly cleans the inside of my cupboards.

PickAChew · 06/06/2020 17:17

Upright. A bit of dust is easy enough to wash out if it's not needed for a while but the rim of a cup that's been resting on a less than pristine surface is a nasty surprise

Laiste · 06/06/2020 17:21

Upside down on a spread out clean cotton tea towel on the shelf.

When i tidy the cupboards i change the tea towel. It stops them slipping about and catches any moisture and is softer to put them on.

Choccyp1g · 06/06/2020 17:22

The tumblers that are used every day, upside down.
The stemmed wine glasses that are only used for visitors, right way up, but covered by a Pringles or Nutella lid.

BrightonBB · 06/06/2020 17:24

Right way up to avoid a dirty rim!!

helpfulperson · 06/06/2020 17:24

Upside down on kitchen paper.

Bamaluz · 06/06/2020 19:16

Right way up as I was taught when I worked in a hotel. to keep the rims
clean.

EatsShootsAndRuns · 06/06/2020 19:20

I was going to confidently say upside down but then I just opened the cupboard and they're right way up Blush

In my defence, DH does the washing up and putting away, I do all the cooking.

EatsShootsAndRuns · 06/06/2020 19:21

covered by a Pringles or Nutella lid

I like your style!

CatBatCat · 06/06/2020 19:35

Upside down. Just habit from when working in bars which are stored upside down to stop you touching the top half of the glass where the customer would drink from.

HeronLanyon · 06/06/2020 19:36

Everything right way up. I’d be worried about delicate glasses getting damaged if I put them upside down. plus with mugs I have some stacked.
