Miss Marple, Midsommer Murders, Poirot etc

I'm a bit ashamed at how much I've got into these in the last few months. They are all ridiculous and full of terrible hammy acting but pure escapism. Also good for spotting actors who were clearly on the "British TV murder mystery drama" circuit back at the start of their careers. Yesterday I spotted a foetal Jude Law masquerading as, shock horror, a woman, to escape the long arm of Jeremy Brett as the gloriously over-acted Sherlock Holmes. And today, here's a practically teenaged Kevin Whately assisting Joan Hickson's Miss Marple. I say!

I haven't been able to watch these for ages, but I do love a good cosy murder mystery, ideally not set now for the full escapism.

Agatha Christies have been my 'go to' books this lockdown. I can't deal with anything more gritty while the world is such a stressful mess.

I'm rereading my Agatha Christie books too, as pp said, it's gentle enough while the world is in mayhem.

@DisgruntledGuineaPig I've read load of Agatha Christie's since March. My favourite was the ABC murders.
They show Inspector Morse on ITV3 at the weekends sometimes too!

Actually if you're after a cosy murder mystery read, I can highly recommend Louise Penny's inspector Gamache books. They're excellent. I'm on the 5th one. I've never actually read any Agatha Christie, I'll have to give them a go.

Poirot, Marple and Endeavour are our families comforting watches. ThroughDD's GCSE's she would always like a nice comforting Agatha Christie in bed with me to relax
And through lockdown we have had an Endeavour every Sunday evening

HerBigChance · 06/06/2020 14:30

I watch them repeatedly and love them. Proper comfort TV.
