Web developer/software advice

Hi

Is there anyone that can offer advice?

I’m being made redundant from my role. Much of it was education related but including some data analysis.

I’m currently at home and want to use some time after my dc goes to sleep to dedicate to developing some skills which I can use moving forward.

What would be the better route? Web development or software development? In terms of market trends and employability and future proofing to ensure I have work?

Should I do a dedicated training course?
I can pay for some training and would like this to be online and remote. I can dedicate time each day to working on these skills

I’ve looked at code academy and the route it suggests is the web development.
Would this be a good course provider?

Thanks in advance for any tips

Code academy is a good provider as far as I know. I suspect it's quite expensive though!

I'd argue (if I'm understanding you correctly) that both of the roles you're talking about are software development, but you're talking about having a back end (API/database connection type stuff) or a front end (more websites/apps focus) focus.

Back end developers are paid more. Front end development is supposedly easier to pick up.

Neither are an easy career choice though - are you sure you want to do it full time? I love my job, but it's absolutely not for everyone. What sort of data analysis did you do before? Was it excel, or something like python/matlab? If excel, do you have any experience of coding?

I'm not trying to put you off, I swear, but moving into this career is a lot of upfront work and I wouldn't want to encourage people to do it without being sure is all!
