Just need an unbiased opinion.

Based on clothes only, is this baby a boy or a girl?

I'd have said Girl a boys stripy top wouldn't have pink.

But apparently children have gender neutral faces until they are 7.
Although a friend said my newborn son (sent photo no further explanation)- looked like a boy.

Theyhaveallbeenused2 · 05/06/2020 17:14

First guess girl but fairly neutral outfit

Selfsettling3 · 05/06/2020 17:14

Girl.

XFPW · 05/06/2020 17:15

I’d have said girl because of the frilly edges on the top and the addition of a pink stripe. (Without the pink stripe it would def be a neutral top.)

But I am totally with you OP. When my eldest DD was born I was adamant that she wasn’t going to be head to toe in pink - not because I don’t like pink per se, but because I hated that it was deemed the only appropriate colour for her to wear! She also didn’t suit pale colours and it was all pale baby pink - hot pink would have been fine but there was very little of it around.

She was born in Autumn and there were tons of brown, orange, purple clothes that year which really suited her. That’s what she wore and it suited her skin colour much better than pale, insipid colours. The clothes were obviously girls clothes - frills, flowers, hearts, bright pink and purple accents etc and yet she still got called a boy and I had people telling me off for not dressing her like a girl! Apparently pale pink = girl. Anything else must = boy!

Either.

KaleJuicer · 05/06/2020 17:16

Girl because of the drill detail on the top

KaleJuicer · 05/06/2020 17:16

*frill

XFPW · 05/06/2020 17:17

Even when in skirts and dresses i was told she wasn’t dressed like a girl. You honestly can’t win with some people.

Custardcreamies101 · 05/06/2020 17:17

Girl...the bottom of the top is frilly

StCharlotte · 05/06/2020 17:19

Either way, she's looking a bit jaundiced.

I8toys · 05/06/2020 17:22

Girl

AFewScrewsLucy · 05/06/2020 17:23

See the difference between the "boys" and "girls" sets?? Drives me crazy 😣

Girl

MikeUniformMike · 05/06/2020 17:24

Shouldn't she have a pink t-shirt with Mummy's Little Princess/Unicorn/Little Angel/Mermaid on it?

That photo is a bit outing - I take it you have the same facial features?

EvilEdna1 · 05/06/2020 17:24

Girl...but I have learnt not to assume from clothes.

MrsJBaptiste · 05/06/2020 17:24

GIRL

Leobynature · 05/06/2020 17:24

Girl

Standrewsschool · 05/06/2020 17:25

Girl due to pink and frilly edges. Without these, the top would be more neutral.

Dollywilde · 05/06/2020 17:27

I'm currently buying for our DC1 due in August (we don't know if having a boy or a girl) and I'm seriously having to catch myself for thinking things are 'boy clothes' or 'girl's clothes'. I have a lovely pointelle sleepsuit in white and keep thinking 'it's a bit girly - what's if DC1 is a boy?' and then telling myself off. They're just clothes, but it is funny how brainwashed we are by it - even those of us who like to think we're pretty clued up on the sex/gender bullshit.

FWIW I usually go with 'hello lovely, what's your name?' when talking to babies (even non-verbal ones) so that mum/dad/whoever is with them can tell me without me putting my foot in it with 'his' or 'her'. Although that doesn't help when the answer is something like 'Alex'... Grin

MummaGiles · 05/06/2020 17:28

Could be either

NameChange84 · 05/06/2020 17:28

I’d definitely have thought she was a girl. No way would I have dressed a boy like that.

I’ve taken babies out in white Broderie Anglais Sundresses and Pink Sunhats or Lilac Pinafore Dress, cream tights, shoes with bows on and a bow in the hair and had said babies constantly referred to as “He” and “Him” and “Bonnie Lad” by little old ladies 🙄. Bizarre.

BigMamaFratelli · 05/06/2020 17:29

Girl

But I had a couple of people ask if dd1 was a boy or a girls when she was a baby when she was dressed head to toe in pinkHmm

Blackravenbaby · 05/06/2020 17:30

Girl, but only after studying the picture and seeing the scalloped edges of the top.
At a glance I might assume boy because of the colours and style of clothes - very neutral.

maddiemookins16mum · 05/06/2020 17:30

Girl but clearly a boy as otherwise your post would be pointless I guess.
