For almost two weeks now I have low carbed and done 5:2

I have cut out all junk

I am eating salad like there's no tomorrow.

Walking and running every day

I haven't lost a thing!

Starting to feel really down about it. Please reassure me that it will come off, I'm so tempted to go and make toast and cry

Have you kept a track of calories using MFP? That might help to locate the problem.

Calories could be from what you're drinking maybe?

BeatrixPottersAlterEgo · 04/06/2020 13:02

I've tracked loosely and am eating under 1500 a day. Not drinking calories. I wasn't expecting great things but thought I'd have dropped a pound by now!

I'm not an expert but 1500kcal might be too little for you, depending on your age, weight, activity levels etc. It's a tricky balance to get right but low carb and salads may not be enough, your need good carbs, fats and protein. Contact a dietician or look for a calorie deficit calculator online.

How much do you weigh? How old are you? What's your TDEE?
You wont be eating too little to lose weight, that's not a thing. Either your TDEE is fairly low for various reasons or you are over estimating your calories eaten.

@BeatrixPottersAlterEgo one of the most unfair things in life ( in my opinion!) is how hard it is to lose weight! I find it takes 3 weeks for any change in my eating habits to show whether its a loss or gain. Hormones play a huge part - I gained half a stone last week as i was on my period - this week its gone! You need to be REALLY careful about weighing and recording your food for at least a month. Be really honest - put everything down, even the bit of cake or half a biscuit or spoonful of sugar in your coffee. I found that whilst I was sticking religiously to my allowed calories Monday -Thursday, I was going way over Friday to Sunday and undoing any good done earlier in the week.

Also, its depressing but you burn very few calories exercising. I burn around 80 per mile walking fast, 100 per mile jogging and 30 per mile cycling. I worked this out using a heart rate monitor!

BamboozledandBefuddled · 04/06/2020 13:27

I never lose weight quickly. Right now, I am categorically not dieting - I'm eating more healthily, cutting down on alcohol and cutting out snacks or choosing healthier options. Not counting calories. I haven't weighed myself but know roughly what I weigh. After a month of this, I'll weigh myself and start a proper diet. And if doing it this way doesn't mean I see results soon after the diet starts, I'm giving up and staying overweight!

TwentyViginti · 04/06/2020 13:31

Try not to focus on your weight, but the fit of your clothes and your measurements. You may have gained muscle volume through excercise, but still lost fat.

Batqueen · 04/06/2020 13:37

As above have you calculated your individual TDEE?

Is your period coming? Can make me go up by up to 7lbs

Do you weigh at the same time each day?

Two weeks is really not very long to notice a difference with all the above reasons to cause fluctuation. You need to stick at it for at least a month to really start noticing a pattern and to know that even if the numbers go up they come down again.

Don't go and make toast! That will only make things worse.

Have you been keeping your fat intake high? Low carb isn't low fat.

Here's the current chat thread

Nearly 30, 5'5 and 12 stone on the dot. I do wonder if my water retention/hormones are a bit out of whack, because I'm quite active, I do eat healthily apart from the chocolate and toast binges which have contributed to weight gain (toddler, no sleep, lockdown) I'll go and look at that thread now
