Anyone else’s 4-yr-old wired and badly behaved when they come out of nursery?

Start off by saying I love his nursery and so does he. Totally trust them.

But every time he comes out, he’s hyper and really badly behaved. (He’s almost 4.) He started back on Tuesday.

Anyone else?! I can’t work out why it happens!

It's really common. They've been well behaved at nursery following the rules etc and then they get home and can relax in their safe place so act up. It's just a release after nursery. Think I've heard it called the mentos effect.

It's like adults at work holding it together all day being polite and doing their job but once home opening a bottle of wine and being a bit snappy with everyone.

No advice, I'm still dealing with it! Maybe just have a treat like tv and a snack for a bit so he can chill.

Brain is tired from nursery. It improves as they get older and ‘fitter’.

Both my 2 and 4 year were. Though it's only happened since going back to nursery this week after lockdown. I'm guessing it's due to excitement about seeing their friends again.

That makes sense! I never thought of it like that before - apparently he’s very well

Both of mine are exhausted and subsequently do play up as they restarted at the childminder this week

Waking up earlier, doing more things (instead of in front of the tv as we are both working) and generally having lots of fun

We are putting them to bed earlier and generally doing a relaxed approach to the evening no expectations and expect it will improve after the weekend into next week

Mine is wired and badly behaved IN nursery at the moment Blush
She's just gone back after essentially 3 months of TV whilst DH and I wfh ft and tried to homeschool her older brother, so I'm not surprised....

If I ask my 4 year old any questions about nursery she goes all Kevin the teenager on me and says she doesn’t want to talk about it! I think they’re so exhausted from running about all day, which is fair enough. My daughter is definitely worse behaved when tired
