Question about weed

Hello I’m very worried about something. My husband makes his own cookies with weed in them every couple of weeks. I just put a cake in the oven for a friend’s birthday and could smell weed slightly when I preheated it and put the cake in.
How likely is it that a person can become intoxicated this way? The cookies were made about 15 hours ago. I spoke to him about it and he says no way and I’m being ridiculous and that you can’t get stoned from a smell or residue. Thanks anyone who answers.

Regardless, it will likely taste of weed so I don’t hunk you should give it to her.

I would say it's just the smell on your oven not that I know 😇

lonelyinafishbowl · 03/06/2020 15:30

Thank you, I won’t give it to her. He’s been very nasty to me about asking all of these questions. I have very severe anxiety.

The smell sticks inside if hes shut the oven door straight away after baking them.
Speaking from younger experience of making weed cupcakes while my my mother was at work, she went to cook shepherds pie in the evening and sworn blind she could smell weed - I still deny it now Blush

To your question, no intoxication will occur but the may be a faint smell that will linger until the cake has cooled.

lonelyinafishbowl · 03/06/2020 15:36

@EastMidsMumOf1 oh no that’s funny about the Shepherds pie! 🙈
I guess the smell has lingered, I think I’ll make another cake tomorrow when it’s cleared!

Absolutely zero chance of any form of intoxication from anything cooked in the same oven, if you want to believe me.

Same way you can't get high from just smelling the flowers on the plant (sadly Smile).

Leaving the door open after cooking should help disperse the smell. And there's always good old bicarb.

That said, cooking with weed is a bit shit. Much better to gently heat the ground weed in a little butter (THC/CBD dissolve in fats) filter it off and use that in the comestibles.

With the caveat that consumed cannabis tends to work slightly differently (and slowly) to smoked cannabis. So don't keep nibbling thinking "I don't feel anything yet ...."

@TheUser420 thank you SO much for your reply, I appreciate that a lot!

Ah ok that makes sense. Good tip about heating it in butter first, I will tell him that. My weed days are over now but I’m not bothered if I eat this cake and if affects me, I would just be mortified if it got my friend stoned!

Yes my husband said when he eats the cookies there’s nothing for a while then it hits him and is much stronger than smoking it which he hasn’t done for 3 years. He tried vaping it and hated that.

Pleased to help out Smile

A word of warning. If you are both familiar with the smell of cannabis, remember that it is quite strong and whilst you may not smell it, guests/visitors might.

Depending how it's ingested, you can get quite a complex brew of cannabinoids going on ... smoking tends to burn hotter and degrades a lot of the THC, compared to vaping. Gently extracting the fat-soluble compounds (into butter for example) and gentle cooking tends to lead to higher levels of CBD and quite a complex soup of THC- and CBD- deltas which some prefer.

Worth noting that THC (and CBD) don't really smell when extracted. It's much more the plants resinous secretions that most people associate with cannabis. And they won't get you high.

lonelyinafishbowl · 03/06/2020 19:51

Wow thank you for this info! I didn’t know that about the fat soluble compounds at all, I’ll let him know. He actually does also have some CBD oil that he vapes.

Really appreciate the details! And yes you’re right about the smell of it, I’m very conscious when he makes the cookies and wouldn’t want people smelling it. Luckily he only started baking them when we went into lockdown so no one has been coming inside anyway!!
